SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Marvin Neely of Rock Island, who
4passed away on August 22, 2021; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Marvin Neely was born to Clay and Ina (Holton)
6Neely in DeKalb, Mississippi on September 5, 1931; he joined
7Center Ridge Baptist Church at an early age and graduated from
8Whisenton High School; he honorably served in the U.S. Marine
9Corps during the Korean War; he married Louise Watkins on July
1023, 1955; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Marvin Neely worked at the Rock Island Arsenal
12for 38 years; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Marvin Neely enjoyed many years of league bowling
14at Town & Country; he was a member of Second Baptist Church in
15Rock Island where he served as an usher; he was also a longtime
16member of the Elks and Lions Clubs; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Throughout his retirement years, Marvin Neely
18enjoyed playing golf, watching his stories such as The Young
19and the Restless, and cheering on his favorite sports teams,
20especially the Chicago Cubs and Bears; he loved to laugh,
21joke, tell stories, and celebrate his family's

1accomplishments; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Marvin Neely was preceded in death by his parents
3and his siblings, Ella, Mary, Henry Clay, James, Benjamin, and
4Charlie; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Marvin Neely is survived by his wife, Louise; his
6children, Willie (Cyntra) Neely, Marvin (Judy) Neely, Lynette
7(Donnie) Neely-McDuffy, Lanolia Neely, and James (Bridget)
8Neely; his grandchildren, Tonia (Teonta) Williams-Neely, Tosha
9(Ishmael) Neely-Obleton, Monica Sanders, Shaylan McDuffy,
10Julia Garrison, and Tonette, Marvin (Jasmine), Christopher,
11Jeremy, James, Malcolm, Julian, and Jaden Neely; his 13
12great-grandchildren; his siblings, Jimmie, Lanolia, and
13Edward; and his loving pet, Bo; therefore, be it
 
14    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL
15ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
16Marvin Neely and extend our sincere condolences to his family,
17friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further
 
18    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
19presented to the family of Marvin Neely as an expression of our
20deepest sympathy.
