SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Alberto S. Nieto, Ph.D., of Champaign,
4who passed away on August 30, 2021; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Dr. Nieto was born in Tacna, Peru on June 19,
61938; he left South America to continue his education; he
7received his master's degree from Washington University in St.
8Louis; he earned his Ph.D. in Geology from the University of
9Illinois; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Dr. Nieto was retained to teach in both the Civil
11Engineering and Geology Departments at the University of
12Illinois when he completed his doctorate; he taught at the
13University of Illinois for 30 years; he was one of only seven
14geotechnical engineering faculty honored with individual
15laboratories in the newly built geotechnical engineering
16addition to the Civil and Environmental Engineering building;
17he retired in 2000; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Dr. Nieto took up painting, drawing, and
19sketching after his retirement; he also attended a variety of
20art classes at Parkland College; he enjoyed cooking meals
21featuring the foods of Peru; and

1    WHEREAS, Dr. Nieto was known for being an outstanding
2professor and often the life of any party; he adored his
3grandchildren and lived to make them laugh and to make sure
4they knew how much they were loved; he will be remembered most
5as someone who shared his love and sense of humor liberally
6with family and friends; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Dr. Nieto was preceded in death by his father,
8Carlos; his mother, Emilia; and his ex-wife, Lynn; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Dr. Nieto is survived by his wife, Nancy Benson
10Nieto; his sons, Carlos and Marco; his sisters, Nanita and
11Melita; his grandchildren, Sofia, Nina, Mario, Enzo, and Nico;
12his three nieces; and his one nephew; therefore, be it
 
13    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL
14ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
15Alberto S. Nieto and extend our sincere condolences to his
16family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
17further
 
18    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
19presented to the family of Dr. Nieto as an expression of our
20deepest sympathy.
