SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of John "Jack" Van Oteghem of Moline, who
4passed away on October 30, 2021; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Jack Van Oteghem was born to Alphonse and
6Florence Ann (Hoogerwerf) Van Oteghem in Moline on June 8,
71934; he served in the U.S. Navy; he married Sally Creen at St.
8Mary's Catholic Church in Moline on July 2, 1955; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Jack Van Oteghem was a fireman for the Moline
10Fire Department for 24 years and retired as a lieutenant in
111975; during that time, he also worked for Davenport schools
12as a printer for 20 years; he later worked for Julie's Artistic
13Rose in Moline as a delivery driver; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Jack Van Oteghem was a member of the Moline
15Second Alarmers, volunteers who assist the Moline Fire
16Department and other departments in a number of ways,
17including with on-scene breathing air refill and re-hab
18service; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Jack Van Oteghem was a former member of St.
20Mary's Catholic Church in Moline where he had served on the
21parish council; he was a current member of Christ the King

1Catholic Churc in Moline and served as a eucharistic minister;
2he was a member of the Moline American Legion and enjoyed
3playing cards.; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Jack Van Oteghem was preceded in death by his
5parents; his son, Charles Van Oteghem; and his four brothers,
6Robert, Leonard, Dick, and Bill; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Jack Van Oteghem is survived by his wife; his
8daughter, Marcy Hardy; his grandchildren, Ashley Van Oteghem,
9Danielle Nipper, Jessica Avey, and Sarah Hardy; and his
10great-grandsons, Ethan Van Oteghem and Isaac Johnson;
11therefore, be it
 
12    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL
13ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
14John "Jack" Van Oteghem and extend our sincere condolences to
15his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
16further
 
17    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18presented to the family of Jack Van Oteghem as an expression of
19our deepest sympathy.
