SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Betty White, who passed away on
4December 31, 2021; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Betty White was born in Oak Park to Harris and
6Tess White on January 17, 1922; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Betty White was widely recognized in her craft as
8having built a career that spanned seven decades, such that
9Guinness World Records certified her as the female entertainer
10with the longest career; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Betty White was awarded seven Emmy awards for her
12acting; she was inducted into the Television Academy Hall of
13Fame in 1995 and was voted Entertainer of the Year by members
14of the Associated Press; she was given a lifetime achievement
15award by the Screen Actors Guild in 2010, only to continue
16acting and producing well into her 90s; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Betty White supported the breaking of racial
18barriers in the television industry by featuring a Black tap
19dancer, Arthur Duncan, on The Betty White Show as a regular
20during the 1950s; and

1    WHEREAS, Betty White was a lifelong animal lover;
2alongside her beloved husband and supporter, Allen Ludden, she
3devoted her time off-screen to supporting the American Humane
4Association, the Morris Animal Foundation, the Fund for
5Animals, and the Los Angeles Zoo; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Betty White was honored in 2006 by the Los
7Angeles Zoo with the title "Ambassador to the Animals" and a
8plaque unveiled in her honor; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Betty White brought joy to countless Americans
10over the decades with her humor and artistic abilities; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Illinois is a state that seeks to richly
12contribute to the greater American culture through creative
13vision and honors individuals that dedicate their life to
14philanthropic endeavors; therefore, be it
 
15    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL
16ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we declare January 17,
172022 as "Betty White Day" in the State of Illinois to
18commemorate the deeply devoted, artistic, visionary, and
19philanthropic spirit of Betty White; and be it further
 
20    RESOLVED, That we mourn the passing of Betty White and
21extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, many

1coworkers, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further
 
2    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
3presented to the family of Betty White as an expression of our
4deepest sympathy.
