2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | ||||||
3 | to learn of the death of Sister Edna E. McNelty, who passed | ||||||
4 | away on December 22, 2021; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Sister McNelty was born to Warnella Sweet (Lee) | ||||||
6 | Crossley and Peter Hubert Crossley in Summit, Mississippi on | ||||||
7 | July 29, 1929; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, Sister McNelty was the First Lady of the First | ||||||
9 | Baptist Church of Melrose Park for 42 years; she assisted the | ||||||
10 | church's H. McNelty School in various ways during her tenure, | ||||||
11 | including overseeing the construction of the pre-school in | ||||||
12 | 1990 and the addition of a high school, which featured an | ||||||
13 | auditorium, educational labs, an atrium garden, and a state of | ||||||
14 | the art media center; she later joined United Baptist Church | ||||||
15 | in Chicago, where she continued to serve others and worked | ||||||
16 | diligently to ensure that others had food and clothing; in her | ||||||
17 | final years, she connected with Rock of Ages Baptist Church in | ||||||
18 | Maywood; and
| ||||||
19 | WHEREAS, Sister McNelty retired from the Department of | ||||||
20 | Health and the Department of Human Services Social Security | ||||||
21 | Administration after 22 years of service; and

1 | WHEREAS, Sister McNelty was deeply committed to her faith; | ||||||
2 | she will be remembered as an extremely talented individual who | ||||||
3 | supported her family, church, and friends; and
| ||||||
4 | WHEREAS, Sister McNelty was preceded in death by her | ||||||
5 | parents; her husband, Pastor H. McNelty; her brothers, Ellzey | ||||||
6 | Crossley, Jewell Crossley, Paul Hubert Crossley, and Mike | ||||||
7 | (Linda) Crossley; her sisters, Lonnie (Pete) Mae Tucker, | ||||||
8 | Roberta (Clinton) Williams, Eva Moore, and Evangelist Lucinda | ||||||
9 | (Vodie) Savage; her sister-in-law, Ann Crossley; and her | ||||||
10 | godson, Wilburn Robinson; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, Sister McNelty is survived by her son, Michael | ||||||
12 | (Mary); her granddaughter, Tawanda; her sisters, Joyce | ||||||
13 | McSpadden, Clara Crossley, and Theresa Crossley; her | ||||||
14 | sister-in-law, Inez Crossley; her brother, Lonnie Melvin | ||||||
15 | Crossley; her brother-in-law, Willie Frank Moore; her | ||||||
16 | goddaughters, Anita Perkins-Tate and Benita Edwards; her | ||||||
17 | godsons, Cleo McSpadden, Charlie McSpadden, and Shaun | ||||||
18 | Mayberry; and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, | ||||||
19 | great-nephews, other relatives, and friends; therefore, be it

20 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL | ||||||
21 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
| ||||||
22 | Sister Edna E. McNelty and extend our sincere
condolences to | ||||||
23 | her family, friends, and all who knew and loved
