SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Theodore J. "Ted" Schlitt Jr. of
4Springfield, who passed away on December 17, 2021; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Ted Schlitt was born to Theodore "Ted" J. Schlitt
6Sr. and Edith Williams Schlitt in Springfield on February 24,
71938; he was a resident of Springfield for all of his life; he
8earned his degree in engineering from Northwestern University;
9he served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam Era, and he
10served as a lieutenant (junior grade) in the Navy Supply
11Corps; he married Sheila Agnes Conaghan on June 29, 1968; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Ted Schlitt was the third generation owner of
13Schlitt Supply, which was started by his grandfather in 1908;
14after retirement, he worked at the Illinois Department of
15Transportation Bureau of Railroad since 1998; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Ted Schlitt ran as a write-in mayoral candidate
17of Leland Grove and won, serving as mayor from 1979 to 1991;
18and
 
19    WHEREAS, Ted Schlitt was an officer in the American
20Business Club for many years and a former member of the Sangamo
21Club; he was also an active member and board member of the

1Illini Country Club; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Ted Schlitt was an avid tennis player, golfer,
3bicyclist, snow skier, and bridge player; he will be
4remembered as the best of the best; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Ted Schlitt was preceded in death by his parents;
6and
 
7    WHEREAS, Ted Schlitt is survived by his wife; his
8daughters, Carrie Jane "CJ" (Dr. JK) Guarasci and Emily Agnes
9(Chad) Burds; his grandchildren, Jacob Guarasci, Lexi
10Guarasci, Carter Burds, and Payton Burds; and his sister,
11Janet Louise (James) Norris; therefore, be it
 
12    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL
13ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
14Theodore J. "Ted" Schlitt Jr. and extend our sincere
15condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved
16him; and be it further
 
17    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18presented to the family of Ted Schlitt as an expression of our
19deepest sympathy.
