2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | ||||||
3 | to learn of the death of Jackie L. "Jack" Cummings of Loami, | ||||||
4 | who passed away on November 13, 2021; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Jack Cummings was born to Lloyd and Bessie | ||||||
6 | (Davenport) Cummings in New Berlin on August 17, 1945; he | ||||||
7 | graduated from New Berlin High School; he served in the U.S. | ||||||
8 | Army starting in 1965 at many locations around the world; he | ||||||
9 | married Cheryl McCray on December 24, 1965; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, Jack Cummings worked for Hermes Chevrolet in New | ||||||
11 | Berlin after his service in the U.S. Army ended; he then worked | ||||||
12 | for Fiat Allis until they closed in the early 1980s; he also | ||||||
13 | worked at Sulphur Springs and Campbell Cemeteries in Loami for | ||||||
14 | several years; and
| ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, Jack Cummings became employed with the Illinois | ||||||
16 | Army National Guard, where he started as a driver and mechanic | ||||||
17 | before ultimately progressing to logistics; he was deployed to | ||||||
18 | Iraq from 2004 to 2005; he retired after 26 years of service; | ||||||
19 | and

20 | WHEREAS, During his time in the U.S. Army and the Illinois | ||||||
21 | Army National Guard, Jack Cummings received numerous ribbons |

1 | and medals, including the Illinois Military Attendance Ribbon, | ||||||
2 | the Illinois Military Long and Honorable Service Medal, the | ||||||
3 | Army Service Ribbon, the National Defense Service Medal, the | ||||||
4 | Overseas Service Ribbon, the Army Reserves Components Overseas | ||||||
5 | Trainer Ribbon, the NCO Professional Development Ribbon, the | ||||||
6 | Army Commendation Medal, the Army Achievement Medal, the Army | ||||||
7 | Good Conduct Medal, the Army Reserve Components Achievement | ||||||
8 | Medal, the Armed Forces Reserve Medal, the Meritorious Service | ||||||
9 | Medal, the Mechanics Badge, the Global War on Terrorism | ||||||
10 | Expeditionary Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service | ||||||
11 | Medal, the Armed Forces Reserve Medal (Mobilized) Drivers | ||||||

14 | WHEREAS, Jack Cummings was also known as "Cooter"; he | ||||||
15 | volunteered with the Loami Fire Department, having served as a | ||||||
16 | past chief; he enjoyed snow skiing, dirt car racing, and polka | ||||||
17 | dancing; he was an avid Chicago Cubs fan; and
| ||||||
18 | WHEREAS, Jack Cummings was preceded in death by his | ||||||
19 | parents; his siblings, Sharon, John, and Charlie; his | ||||||
20 | brother-in-law, Kurtie; and his sister-in-law, Kathi; and
| ||||||
21 | WHEREAS, Jack Cummings is survived by his wife, Cheryl | ||||||
22 | "Suz" Cummings; his daughter, Rhonda (Clint) Johnsey; his | ||||||
23 | brothers, Ron (Macie) Cummings and William Cummings; his |

1 | sister, Janet (Lenny) Chaudoin; his brother-in-law, Albert | ||||||
2 | "Bud" Hermes and Jim "Cray" (Marge) McCray; his sister-in-law, | ||||||
3 | Mary Cummings; his good friend, Eddie Phillips; and several | ||||||
4 | nieces, nephews, and cousins; therefore, be it
| ||||||
5 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL | ||||||
6 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
7 | Jackie L. "Jack" Cummings and extend our sincere condolences | ||||||
8 | to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be | ||||||
9 | it further

10 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
11 | presented to the family of Jack Cummings as an expression of | ||||||
