SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Shwuyi Leu, Ph.D. of Oak Park, who
4passed away on July 23, 2021 at the age of 59; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Dr. Leu was born in Taipei, Taiwan on February 4,
61962; she was the second daughter of Mau-Chi Leu and Mei-Yu Lee
7Leu; she obtained her degree in English and Literature from
8Tamkang University in 1980, and she worked in the business
9sector in Taiwan upon graduation; she moved to the United
10States after several years; she earned her Master of Arts,
11Master of Education, and Ph.D. in Education from the
12University of Illinois; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Dr. Leu taught reading and literacy development
14at both the undergraduate and graduate levels in the
15Department of Education at Saint Xavier University in Chicago;
16she later taught at North Central College in Naperville; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Dr. Leu had a lifelong interest in reading; her
18curiosity about things unfamiliar brought her from East to
19West and sustained her ongoing learning in many areas; her
20curiosity and passion for literature made her a respected
21teacher for many enthusiastic students to whom she taught the
22Chinese language, the English language, and reading; and

1    WHEREAS, Dr. Leu is survived by her husband, Ralph R.
2Kazer; her three sisters; her brother; her stepchildren,
3Auben, Lena, and Max; and her step-grandchildren, James and
4Lily; therefore, be it
 
5    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL
6ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
7Shwuyi Leu, Ph.D. and extend our sincere condolences to her
8family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
9further
 
10    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
11presented to the family of Dr. Leu as an expression of our
12deepest sympathy.
