SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Thomas Earl Cliff, who passed away on
4January 15, 2022; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Thomas Cliff was born to Tom Lee Cliff and Martha
6(Anderson) Cliff in Brownsville, Tennessee on September 1,
71947; he relocated to Decatur in 1958; he graduated from
8Eisenhower High School in 1967; he was drafted into the U.S.
9Army, where he served two tours in Vietnam; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Thomas Cliff worked for Illinois Power for 41
11years until he retired; he ventured into business ownership
12and became the owner of multiple businesses; he established a
13corporation with his sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and
14Harry, and opened his first restaurant, THB, in 1991; he later
15opened Jalyrih's Grill, which became a corporation in 2011;
16his businesses hosted community events and family gatherings
17and served as a source of employment for family and community
18neighbors; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Thomas Cliff was a dedicated member of the Church
20of the Living God CWFF and an exalted ruler of the Elks for
21numerous years; he enjoyed playing bingo and listening to the
22blues in his spare time; he was a loving father, grandfather,

1brother, uncle, and friend; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Thomas Cliff was preceded in death by his parents
3and his sisters, Nannie F. (James Arthur) Lee and Martha
4Louise (Warren) Thomas; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Thomas Cliff is survived by his children, Catina
6Cliff, Marlin Murphy, Adrian Murphy, and Sinita Cliff; his
7sister, Barbara (Bishop Harry) Hendricks; his grandchildren,
8Kaysha Murphy, M.J. Murphy, Jalyrih Cliff, Brancyrih James,
9and Samyrih James; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and
10friends; therefore, be it
 
11    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL
12ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
13Thomas Earl Cliff and extend our sincere condolences to his
14family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
15further
 
16    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
17presented to the family of Thomas Cliff as an expression of our
18deepest sympathy.
