SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Deidre Nicole Silas of Springfield,
4who passed away on January 4, 2022; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Deidre Silas was born to Roy and Barie Graham in
6Kingston, Jamaica on July 30, 1985; she moved to the United
7States in December 1995; during high school, she made the
8National Honor Roll for many years; she also served as a Scope
9mentor and participated in the Boys and Girls Club, the
10Fashionetta cotillion, and the UBC Youth Ministry; she was the
11president of the Caribbean Student Association in 2007; she
12received her Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice in 2008;
13she married Andre Silas in 2017; she earned her Master of
14Public Administration in 2019, her certification in Project
15Management in 2020, and certification in Human Resource
16Management in 2020; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Deidre Silas committed to her faith at an early
18age; her church home was Union Baptist Church; she enjoyed
19reading, playing with her kids, playing mom to her younger
20cousins, cooking, and spending time with her family and
21friends; and
 
22    WHEREAS, Deidre Silas was affectionately known as "Nadia"

1and was the heartbeat of her household; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Deidre Silas was preceded in death by her
3grandparents, Gersham and Gertrude; her aunt, Carole, and her
4grandmother, Beryl; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Deidre Silas is survived by her husband, Andre
6Silas; her children, Ashton Silas and Amelia Silas; her
7parents; her brother, Mario Graham; her honorary sister and
8cousin, Monique Coombs; her grandfather, Clifford; her aunts,
9Monica, Avis, Andrea, Annmarie, Shawnie, Movia, Sylvia,
10Sharon, Kerryann, and Carol; her uncles, Carl, Lenny, Winston,
11Errol, Donovan, Wayne, Junior, and Shawn; and her many
12cousins; therefore, be it
 
13    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL
14ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
15Deidre Nicole Silas and extend our sincere condolences to her
16family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
17further
 
18    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
19presented to the family of Deidre Silas as an expression of our
20deepest sympathy.
