SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Jess Meado of South Jacksonville, who
4passed away on January 31, 2022; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Jess Meado was born in Meredosia to Lester and
6Viola Ball Meado on July 11, 1933; he married Donna Kehl at the
7Church of Our Saviour in Jacksonville on December 31, 1953;
8and
 
9    WHEREAS, Jess Meado was a plumber in the Jacksonville area
10for many years; he was a member of Plumbers and Pipefitters
11Local 137 and served his apprenticeship with Tom Crabtree; he
12worked for Doyle Plumbing and Heating for many years and
13finished his career with the Jacksonville Correctional Center;
14and
 
15    WHEREAS, Jess Meado served in the United States Marine
16Corps during the Korean War and was awarded the Bronze Star,
17Silver Star, Purple Heart, and South Korean Gold Star; he was
18honored in several publications, including The Final Crucible:
19US Marines in Korea by Lee Ballenger; he welcomed home many
20Honor Flight participants as they returned to Abraham Lincoln
21Capital Airport following their trips to Washington D.C.; he
22was proud to have been presented a Quilt of Valor; he was

1active in the West Central Illinois Leathernecks and countless
2Toys for Tots campaigns; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Jess Meado was a member of the Our Saviour
4Parish; he coached Little League Baseball for years and was a
5founding member of the Jacksonville Area Youth Football
6League; he enjoyed camping, canoeing, and traveling with his
7wife; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Jess Meado was preceded in death by his brothers,
9Lester, Robert, and Clarence Meado; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Jess Meado is survived by his wife, Donna; his
11children, Vicki (Michael) Vaughn, Terry Shafer, Rick (Patty)
12Meado, and Patti Meado (Dick Barnes); his grandchildren, Tyler
13(Joanna) Vaughn, Karissa Vaughn, Jamie (Scott) Schieber,
14Jessica Shafer, Brent Meado, Brian (Tara) Meado, and Christina
15Meado (Ross Graves); seven great-grandchildren; and several
16nieces and nephews; therefore, be it
 
17    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL
18ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
19Jess Meado and extend our sincere condolences to his family,
20friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further
 
21    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
