SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, Illinois has over 1,300 fire departments that
3serve our citizens and communities; and
 
4    WHEREAS, The firefighters of Illinois dedicate their lives
5to protect and serve others through ensuring the general
6welfare of our lives and property, keeping our communities
7safe, helping prevent disaster, and providing emergency
8assistance; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Firefighters work selflessly while risking
10physical and mental injury and the possibility of the ultimate
11sacrifice of life; and
 
12    WHEREAS, During the COVID-19 pandemic, firefighters have
13served and continue to serve on the front lines to protect the
14safety and well-being of Illinoisans; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Firefighters constantly demonstrate bravery and
16sacrifice in protecting our homes, properties, and the lives
17of those we love; and
 
18    WHEREAS, International Firefighters Day honors the
19fearless men and women who not only run toward burning
20buildings and risk their own lives to save others but are often

1the first response when medical attention is required in our
2homes and businesses; therefore, be it
 
3    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL
4ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we declare May 4, 2022
5as Firefighters Day in the State of Illinois to honor the
6fearless men and women who selflessly risk their lives to save
7others; and be it further
 
8    RESOLVED, That we thank current firefighters for their
9dedication to protecting the public and remember those who
10have died in the line of duty; and be it further
 
11    RESOLVED, That we recognize the families of firefighters
12for their endless sacrifices.
