2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | ||||||
3 | to learn of the death of Guadalupe "Lupe" (Bedolla) Jimenez of | ||||||
4 | Chicago, who passed away on February 7, 2022; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Guadalupe Jimenez was born to Socorro and Efrain | ||||||
6 | Bedolla in Chicago on March 16, 1957; she graduated high | ||||||
7 | school in 1975; she married Jose Jimenez in 1975, and they had | ||||||
8 | three children; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, Alongside her husband, Guadalupe Jimenez | ||||||
10 | co-founded Carnicerias Jimenez, one of Chicago's first | ||||||
11 | successful Mexican grocery businesses, which has expanded to | ||||||
12 | many locations throughout the Chicagoland area, including West | ||||||
13 | Chicago; they opened their first storefront, Fruteria Jimenez, | ||||||
14 | in 1975; they opened their second location, Carnicerias | ||||||
15 | Jimenez, on August 8, 1976; they opened their third storefront | ||||||
16 | at 4204 West North Avenue in 1977, where it still stands today; | ||||||
17 | they built a grocery business that started with just | ||||||
18 | themselves as employees and developed into a thriving | ||||||
19 | enterprise that employs more than 400 people, including many | ||||||
20 | who would become pioneers of the Mexican community; their | ||||||
21 | business has won many national and local awards throughout the | ||||||
22 | years for their corporate citizenship and citizen involvement; | ||||||
23 | she maintained an active role in the business until her death; |

2 | WHEREAS, Guadalupe Jimenez left a lasting impact on the | ||||||
3 | community of West Chicago through her advocacy, including | ||||||
4 | donating two semi-trucks full of plastic water bottles for the | ||||||
5 | individuals in Flint, Michigan who were in need of clean | ||||||
6 | water; and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, Guadalupe Jimenez was deeply committed to her | ||||||
8 | faith; she was a significant pillar for the Archdiocese of | ||||||
9 | Chicago, and she mentored many local entrepreneurs and | ||||||
10 | silently sponsored organizations throughout the city, country, | ||||||
11 | and world; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, Guadalupe Jimenez was a formidable businesswoman | ||||||
13 | and trailblazer whose no-nonsense approach was softened by her | ||||||
14 | charming manner, great love for people, and huge heart; and
| ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, Guadalupe Jimenez was preceded in death by her | ||||||
16 | sister, Sandra; her brothers, Arturo, Efrain (Junior), and | ||||||
17 | Jorgito; and her father, Efrain Bedolla; and
| ||||||
18 | WHEREAS, Guadalupe Jimenez is survived by her husband, | ||||||
19 | Jose Jimenez; her children, Luz Maribel, Jose III, and Lupita; | ||||||
20 | her grandchildren, Victorito, Jose Alejandro, Adriana Sophia, | ||||||
21 | and Camila Itzel; her brothers, Patricio, Mario, Pepe, |

1 | Octavio, and Andres; and her mother, Socorro Bedolla; | ||||||
2 | therefore, be it

3 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL | ||||||
4 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
5 | Guadalupe "Lupe" (Bedolla) Jimenez and extend our sincere | ||||||
6 | condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved | ||||||
7 | her; and be it further

8 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
9 | presented to the family of Guadalupe Jimenez as an expression | ||||||
10 | of our deepest sympathy.
