2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened |
3 | | to learn of the death of Maureen Macy Lober, who passed away on |
4 | | December 12, 2022; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Maureen Lober was born to Maurice and Ila Glee |
6 | | Macy in Streator on May 28, 1927; she grew up in Litchfield |
7 | | until her family moved to California and Florida during World |
8 | | War II; she attended the University of California, Los Angeles |
9 | | and then graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Florida State |
10 | | University; and
|
11 | | WHEREAS, Maureen Lober's family returned to Litchfield |
12 | | after the war; she taught English and Spanish at Litchfield |
13 | | High School; she married fellow teacher and basketball coach, |
14 | | Arlyn Lober, in 1950; and |
15 | | WHEREAS, Maureen Lober attended the Lincoln College of Law |
16 | | while teaching in Litchfield; she graduated at the top of her |
17 | | class and became the first woman attorney to be a member of the |
18 | | Illinois Bar Association; she practiced law with her father at |
19 | | Macy and Lober Attorneys at Law in Litchfield for the next 65 |
20 | | years; and |
21 | | WHEREAS, Maureen Lober and Arlyn moved to Springfield in |

1 | | 1952, where she was active in many organizations, including |
2 | | Zonta International, the P.E.O. Sisterhood, the American |
3 | | Association of University Women, and the Litchfield Women's |
4 | | Club; she was an elected member of the first Springfield |
5 | | Metropolitan Exposition and Auditorium Authority Board that |
6 | | was responsible for building the Prairie Capital Convention |
7 | | Center (Bank of Springfield Center); she was also an active |
8 | | and devoted member of Luther Memorial Lutheran Church until it |
9 | | merged into Peace Lutheran, where she attended with family |
10 | | every Sunday; she was exceptionally generous with her time and |
11 | | money for many local charities; and |
12 | | WHEREAS, Maureen Lober loved her family and her bridge |
13 | | club, including her lifelong surviving friends, Marilyn Kyes, |
14 | | MaryAnn Armstrong, Joanne Hott, and Sidney Kling; she also |
15 | | loved her many pets, horseback riding, swimming, skiing, |
16 | | gardening, reading, traveling, music, arguing politics, and |
17 | | correcting one's grammar; and
|
18 | | WHEREAS, Maureen Lober was a women's rights activist and |
19 | | politically involved all of her life; she led by example and |
20 | | was loved and respected by friends, family, and clients; she |
21 | | had a kind and caring nature, always looking on the bright side |
22 | | and concentrating on people's good points; she was a devoted |
23 | | wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and nothing |
24 | | brought her more pleasure than the accomplishments of her |

1 | | children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren; and
|
2 | | WHEREAS, Maureen Lober was preceded in death by her |
3 | | husband of 72 years, Arlyn; her daughter, Laurette; her |
4 | | sisters, Carol Neave and Janet Golovner; and her parents; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Maureen Lober is survived by her daughters, Becky |
6 | | (Denny) Hendricks, Rose (Ric) Lober Hamilton, and Chris (Todd) |
7 | | Green; her grandchildren, Macy (Nick) Lober Morrison, Thomas |
8 | | Hamilton, Gabe Green, and Audrey Green; her |
9 | | great-grandchildren, Eli Cook, Teagan Bensko, Jacob Morrison, |
10 | | and Scarlett and Gianna Green; her brother-in-law, Al Neave; |
11 | | and many nieces and nephews; therefore, be it

12 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL |
13 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
14 | | Maureen Macy Lober and extend our sincere condolences to her |
15 | | family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it |
16 | | further

17 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
18 | | presented to the family of Maureen Lober as an expression of |
19 | | our deepest sympathy.
