SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Maureen Macy Lober, who passed away on
4December 12, 2022; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Maureen Lober was born to Maurice and Ila Glee
6Macy in Streator on May 28, 1927; she grew up in Litchfield
7until her family moved to California and Florida during World
8War II; she attended the University of California, Los Angeles
9and then graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Florida State
10University; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Maureen Lober's family returned to Litchfield
12after the war; she taught English and Spanish at Litchfield
13High School; she married fellow teacher and basketball coach,
14Arlyn Lober, in 1950; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Maureen Lober attended the Lincoln College of Law
16while teaching in Litchfield; she graduated at the top of her
17class and became the first woman attorney to be a member of the
18Illinois Bar Association; she practiced law with her father at
19Macy and Lober Attorneys at Law in Litchfield for the next 65
20years; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Maureen Lober and Arlyn moved to Springfield in

11952, where she was active in many organizations, including
2Zonta International, the P.E.O. Sisterhood, the American
3Association of University Women, and the Litchfield Women's
4Club; she was an elected member of the first Springfield
5Metropolitan Exposition and Auditorium Authority Board that
6was responsible for building the Prairie Capital Convention
7Center (Bank of Springfield Center); she was also an active
8and devoted member of Luther Memorial Lutheran Church until it
9merged into Peace Lutheran, where she attended with family
10every Sunday; she was exceptionally generous with her time and
11money for many local charities; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Maureen Lober loved her family and her bridge
13club, including her lifelong surviving friends, Marilyn Kyes,
14MaryAnn Armstrong, Joanne Hott, and Sidney Kling; she also
15loved her many pets, horseback riding, swimming, skiing,
16gardening, reading, traveling, music, arguing politics, and
17correcting one's grammar; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Maureen Lober was a women's rights activist and
19politically involved all of her life; she led by example and
20was loved and respected by friends, family, and clients; she
21had a kind and caring nature, always looking on the bright side
22and concentrating on people's good points; she was a devoted
23wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and nothing
24brought her more pleasure than the accomplishments of her

1children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Maureen Lober was preceded in death by her
3husband of 72 years, Arlyn; her daughter, Laurette; her
4sisters, Carol Neave and Janet Golovner; and her parents; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Maureen Lober is survived by her daughters, Becky
6(Denny) Hendricks, Rose (Ric) Lober Hamilton, and Chris (Todd)
7Green; her grandchildren, Macy (Nick) Lober Morrison, Thomas
8Hamilton, Gabe Green, and Audrey Green; her
9great-grandchildren, Eli Cook, Teagan Bensko, Jacob Morrison,
10and Scarlett and Gianna Green; her brother-in-law, Al Neave;
11and many nieces and nephews; therefore, be it
 
12    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL
13ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
14Maureen Macy Lober and extend our sincere condolences to her
15family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
16further
 
17    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18presented to the family of Maureen Lober as an expression of
19our deepest sympathy.
