Amends the Revised Cities and Villages Act of 1941. Changes a requirement that each petition for a nomination for mayor, city clerk, or city treasurer in the City of Chicago must be signed by at least 12,500 legal voters of the City of Chicago to a requirement that at least 2,500 legal voters of the City of Chicago sign each of those petitions.

| 2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|
| 3 | | represented in the General Assembly:
|
| 4 | | Section 5. The Revised Cities and Villages Act of 1941 is |
| 5 | | amended by changing Section 21-28 as follows:
|
| 6 | | (65 ILCS 20/21-28) (from Ch. 24, par. 21-28)
|
| 7 | | Sec. 21-28. Nomination by petition. |
| 8 | | (a) All nominations for alderperson of any ward in the |
| 9 | | city shall be by
petition. Each petition for nomination of a |
| 10 | | candidate shall be signed by at least 473 legal voters of the |
| 11 | | ward. |
| 12 | | (b) All nominations for mayor, city clerk, and city |
| 13 | | treasurer in the city shall be by petition. Each petition for |
| 14 | | nomination of a candidate must be signed by at least 2,500 |
| 15 | | 12,500 legal voters of the city.

| 16 | | (c) All such petitions, and procedure with
respect |
| 17 | | thereto,
shall conform in other respects to the provisions of |
| 18 | | the election and
ballot laws then in force in the city of |
| 19 | | Chicago concerning the nomination
of independent candidates |
| 20 | | for public office by petition. The method of
nomination herein |
| 21 | | provided is exclusive of and replaces all other methods
|
| 22 | | heretofore provided by law.
