SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
20 ILCS 3985/2001  from Ch. 127, par. 3852-1

    Amends the Law Enforcement and Fire Fighting Medal of Honor Act. Provides that the Director of the Illinois State Police shall serve as chair of the Law Enforcement Medal of Honor Committee. Provides that, after expiration of the initial appointments, all members shall hold office for 2 years, with terms expiring on the second Monday in January immediately following the expiration of their terms and every 2 years thereafter. The Governor may remove a member for incompetence, neglect of duty, malfeasance, or inability to serve.

1    AN ACT concerning State government.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The Law Enforcement and Fire Fighting Medal of
5Honor Act is amended by changing Section 2001 as follows:
 
6    (20 ILCS 3985/2001)  (from Ch. 127, par. 3852-1)
7    Sec. 2001. There is created the Law Enforcement Medal of
8Honor Committee, referred to in this Article as the Committee.
9The Committee shall consist of the Director of the Illinois
10State Police , who shall serve as chair, the Superintendent of
11the Chicago Police Department, the Executive Director of the
12Illinois Law Enforcement Training Standards Board, and the
13following persons appointed by the Governor: a sheriff, a
14chief of police from other than Chicago, a representative of a
15statewide law enforcement officer organization and a retired
16Illinois law enforcement officer. Of the appointed members,
17the sheriff and police chief shall each serve a 2-year term,
18and the organization representative and retired officer shall
19each serve a one-year term. The Governor shall appoint initial
20members within 3 months of the effective date of this Act.
21Thereafter, all members shall hold office for 2 years, with
22terms expiring on the second Monday in January immediately
23following the expiration of their terms and every 2 years

1thereafter. The Governor may remove a member for incompetence,
2neglect of duty, malfeasance, or inability to serve.
3    Members of the Committee shall serve without compensation
4but shall be reimbursed for actual expenses incurred in the
5performance of their duties from funds appropriated to the
6Office of the Governor for such purpose.
