Amends the Consumer Fraud and Deceptive Business Practices Act. Provides that no person shall sell, attempt to sell, or offer to sell to a consumer in this State a gas stove that is manufactured on or after January 1, 2024 unless a label on the gas stove bears a specified warning message. Provides that a person who violates the new provisions commits an unlawful practice within the meaning of the Act. Defines "gas stove".

2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|
3 | | represented in the General Assembly:
|
4 | | Section 5. The Consumer Fraud and Deceptive Business |
5 | | Practices Act is amended by adding Section 2BBBB as follows: |
6 | | (815 ILCS 505/2BBBB new) |
7 | | Sec. 2BBBB. Gas stoves. |
8 | | (a) As used in this Section, "gas stove" means a household |
9 | | natural gas stove or range that is used for food preparation |
10 | | and provides at least one of the following functions: |
11 | | (1) surface cooking; |
12 | | (2) oven cooking; or |
13 | | (3) broiling. |
14 | | (b) No person shall sell, attempt to sell, or offer to sell |
15 | | to a consumer in this State a gas stove that is manufactured on |
16 | | or after January 1, 2024 unless a label on the gas stove bears |
17 | | the message: |
18 | | WARNING: Gas stoves can release nitrogen dioxide and |
19 | | carbon monoxide inside homes at levels exceeding the EPA's |
20 | | standards for outdoor air quality. The presence of these |
21 | | pollutants may exacerbate pre existing respiratory |
22 | | illnesses or lead to the development of asthma, especially |
23 | | in children. Gas powered stoves should never be used |
