1    AN ACT concerning State government.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The Renewable Energy, Energy Efficiency, and
5Coal Resources Development Law of 1997 is amended by changing
6Section 6-2 as follows:
 
7    (20 ILCS 687/6-2)
8    (Section scheduled to be repealed on December 31, 2025)
9    Sec. 6-2. Findings and intent. The The General Assembly
10finds and declares that it is desirable to obtain the
11environmental quality, public health, and fuel diversity
12benefits of developing new renewable energy resources and
13clean coal technologies for use in Illinois and to lower the
14cost of renewable energy resources and clean coal resources
15provided to utility consumers. The General Assembly finds and
16declares that the benefits of electricity from renewable
17energy resources and clean coal technologies accrue to the
18public at large, thus consumers and electric utilities and
19alternative retail electric suppliers share an interest in
20developing and using a significant level of these
21environmentally preferable resources in the State's
22electricity supply portfolio. The General Assembly finds and
23declares that encouraging energy efficiency will improve the
