HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, It is highly fitting that the Illinois General
3Assembly pays honor and respect to those individuals who have
4given their lives in service to their community; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Lt. Gregory Jonas joined the Alorton Police
6Department in 1976, where he worked for eight years; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Lt. Jonas joined the Centreville Police
8Department in 1995 and was promoted to lieutenant in 2004; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Lt. Jonas was shot and killed on June 2, 2009
10while patrolling an apartment complex in the 4700 block of
11Tudor Avenue; the suspect was apprehended, charged with
12murder, and sentenced to 53 years in prison without parole;
13and
 
14    WHEREAS, At the time of his passing, Lt. Jonas was
15survived by his wife, two sons, four daughters, his mother,
16and 10 grandchildren; therefore, be it
 
17    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
18HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE
19SENATE CONCURRING HEREIN, that we designate Bond Avenue in
20Centreville from South 43rd Street to South 47 Street as the

1"Lt. Gregory Jonas Memorial Avenue"; and be it further
 
2    RESOLVED, That the Illinois Department of Transportation
3is requested to erect at suitable locations, consistent with
4State and federal regulations, appropriate plaques or signs
5giving notice of the name "Lt. Gregory Jonas Memorial Avenue";
6and be it further
 
7    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
8presented to the family of Lt. Jonas and the Secretary of the
9Illinois Department of Transportation.
