|
2 | | WHEREAS, Student access to mental health care and |
3 | | resources is a top educational priority for Illinois parents, |
4 | | and a recent survey by the Centers for Disease Control found |
5 | | that 37% of high school students regularly struggled with |
6 | | mental health during the Covid-19 pandemic; and
|
7 | | WHEREAS, Students learn best in an environment where they |
8 | | feel safe, valued, and capable; it is in the vital interest of |
9 | | students to ensure that they have staff members who care about |
10 | | them and their mental health; and
|
11 | | WHEREAS, School age children experience critical emotional |
12 | | growth and develop social skills that will provide them |
13 | | benefits for a lifetime, and this growth is best fostered by |
14 | | trained mental health professionals; therefore, be it
|
15 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE |
16 | | HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
17 | | we urge the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) to expand |
18 | | mental health care and access for Illinois students; and be it |
19 | | further

20 | | RESOLVED, That we urge the ISBE to pursue recruiting |
21 | | people for the school mental health profession; and be it |
