2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives wish to recognize former Alderperson Michael | ||||||
4 | Scott Jr. on his seven years of dedicated and outstanding | ||||||
5 | service to the people of the 24th Ward and the City of Chicago; | ||||||
6 | and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, Michael Scott is a native of the North Lawndale | ||||||
8 | neighborhood of Chicago; he is the son of prominent Chicago | ||||||
9 | leaders Michael Scott Sr., the former president of the Chicago | ||||||
10 | Board of Education, and Millicent Scott, former superintendent | ||||||
11 | of the 24th Ward; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, Michael Scott graduated from Whitney M. Young | ||||||
13 | Magnet High School in 1994 and earned his Bachelor of Arts in | ||||||
14 | Political Science from Morehouse College in 1998; and
| ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, Michael Scott previously served the Chicago Park | ||||||
16 | District for 12 years; he first served as a park supervisor at | ||||||
17 | the Douglass Cultural Center and later as an area manager for | ||||||
18 | the Central Region, where he managed 35 staffed and unstaffed | ||||||
19 | facilities; and
| ||||||
20 | WHEREAS, Over the course of his career, Michael Scott also | ||||||
21 | served the Chicago Public Schools as citywide sports |

1 | coordinator, the Public Building Commission, and the nonprofit | ||||||
2 | After School Matters; and
| ||||||
3 | WHEREAS, Michael Scott was initially elected as | ||||||
4 | alderperson of the 24th Ward in 2015; he was reelected by his | ||||||
5 | constituents for an additional term in 2019; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, During his tenure in office, Michael Scott | ||||||
7 | diligently worked to create an economic engine for the | ||||||
8 | community, to dedicate more than 300 million dollars to | ||||||
9 | capital and human infrastructure, to beautify the 24th Ward, | ||||||
10 | to improve the relationship between the Chicago Department of | ||||||
11 | Police and the community, and to develop job training for | ||||||
12 | residents; and
| ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, Michael Scott served with distinction on many | ||||||
14 | Chicago City Council committees, including most recently as | ||||||
15 | chairman of the Committee on Education and Child Development | ||||||
16 | and as a member of the Committee on the Budget and Government | ||||||
17 | Operations, the Committee on Committees and Rules, the | ||||||
18 | Committee on Contracting Oversight and Equity, the Committee | ||||||
19 | on Economic, Capital and Technology Development, the Committee | ||||||
20 | on Ethics and Government Oversight, the Committee on Finance, | ||||||
21 | the Committee on License and Consumer Protection, the | ||||||
22 | Committee on Public Safety, and the Committee on | ||||||
23 | Transportation and Public Way; and

1 | WHEREAS, Michael Scott continues to reside in the North | ||||||
2 | Lawndale neighborhood with his wife, Natashee, and his three | ||||||
3 | children, Morgan, Nicholas, and Michael III; therefore, be it
| ||||||
4 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
5 | HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
6 | we recognize former Alderperson Michael Scott Jr. for his | ||||||
7 | tenure on the Chicago City Coucil, thank him for his many years | ||||||
8 | of exceptional service to the people of the 24th Ward and the | ||||||
9 | City of Chicago, and wish him continued success in his future | ||||||
10 | endeavors; and be it further
| ||||||
11 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
12 | presented to Michael Scott as a symbol of our esteem and | ||||||
13 | respect.
