| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives wish to congratulate the Mater Dei High School | ||||||
| 4 | girls basketball team, the Lady Knights, on winning the 2023 | ||||||
| 5 | Illinois High School Association (IHSA) Class 2A Girls | ||||||
| 6 | Basketball Championship; and
| ||||||
| 7 | WHEREAS, The Lady Knights defeated the Byron Tigers at | ||||||
| 8 | Redbird Arena on the campus of Illinois State University on | ||||||
| 9 | March 4, 2023, with a final score of 62-46; and
| ||||||
| 10 | WHEREAS, The Lady Knights' win over Byron earned the team | ||||||
| 11 | its first state basketball championship in Mater Dei history; | ||||||
| 12 | and
| ||||||
| 13 | WHEREAS, The Lady Knights finished the season with a 27-7 | ||||||
| 14 | record, placing them at 26th all-time in IHSA history with 830 | ||||||
| 15 | program wins; and
| ||||||
| 16 | WHEREAS, Lady Knights sophomore Alyssa Koerkenmeier | ||||||
| 17 | achieved one of two triple-doubles in state tournament history | ||||||
| 18 | and finished with 23 points, 14 rebounds, and 10 blocks, with | ||||||
| 19 | her 10 blocks setting a state tournament single-game record; | ||||||
| 20 | and
| ||||||

| 1 | WHEREAS, The Lady Knights' ethos of sportsmanship was on | ||||||
| 2 | display during the championship game when senior forward | ||||||
| 3 | Madison Eversgerd offered words of encouragement and a | ||||||
| 4 | friendly hug to a discouraged competitor; and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, The Lady Knights recovered from a 17-7 season | ||||||
| 6 | start, including losses in four of five games in late January | ||||||
| 7 | and early February, to win every game thereafter, leading to a | ||||||
| 8 | state championship and a 27-win season; and
| ||||||
| 9 | WHEREAS, The Lady Knights basketball team is led by Head | ||||||
| 10 | Coach Craig Zurliene and Assistant Coaches Terri Souder and | ||||||
| 11 | Bridget Winter; and
| ||||||
| 12 | WHEREAS, The Lady Knights basketball team includes | ||||||
| 13 | seniors, Madison Eversgerd, Alexis Kampwerth, Julia Korte, | ||||||
| 14 | Carissa Litteken, and Cora Meyer; juniors, Ryann Becker, Emma | ||||||
| 15 | Eversgerd, Sam Muscarello, Avery Trame, and Madison Winkeler; | ||||||
| 16 | sophomores, Alyssa Koerkenmeier and Maris Zurliene; and | ||||||
| 17 | freshmen, Amelia Beer, Lily Butler, and Addison Ringwald; | ||||||
| 18 | therefore, be it

| 19 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
| 20 | HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
| 21 | we congratulate the Mater Dei High School girls basketball | ||||||
| 22 | team, the Lady Knights, on winning the 2023 Illinois High | ||||||
