2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives wish to congratulate the Illinois | ||||||
4 | Manufacturers' Association on the occasion of its 130th | ||||||
5 | anniversary; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, The Illinois Manufacturers' Association began | ||||||
7 | serving the manufacturers of Illinois in 1893, with the first | ||||||
8 | meeting held at the Medinah Temple in Chicago; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, The Illinois Manufacturers' Association is the | ||||||
10 | oldest and one of the largest state manufacturing trade | ||||||
11 | associations in the United States, representing more than | ||||||
12 | 4,000 manufacturing facilities; and
| ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, Manufacturing contributes the single-largest | ||||||
14 | share (14%) of the State's gross state product (GSP) with a | ||||||
15 | $580 billion economic impact in 2022; and | ||||||
16 | WHEREAS, Illinois manufacturing directly provides between | ||||||
17 | 628,418 and 662,298 jobs, 9.5% of total employment in | ||||||
18 | Illinois, with an average annual wage of almost $80,000 and | ||||||
19 | indirectly supports between 1.68 million and 1.77 million | ||||||
20 | jobs; these jobs compose 29.6% of Illinois total employment; | ||||||
21 | and |

1 | WHEREAS, Manufacturers feed the world, make life saving | ||||||
2 | products, power our homes and businesses, build our | ||||||
3 | infrastructure, transport people and products around the | ||||||
4 | globe, and provide for our nation's defense; and | ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Manufacturing makes the world a better place to | ||||||
6 | live every single day, and manufacturers are the innovators | ||||||
7 | and entrepreneurs, the builders and producers, the dreamers | ||||||
8 | and leaders of America, and the solution to many of the | ||||||
9 | challenges facing our State and nation; and | ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, The Illinois Manufacturers' Association is one of | ||||||
11 | the greatest contributing factors to manufacturing success in | ||||||
12 | Illinois, standing as an advocate and leading voice for | ||||||
13 | industry across the State; and | ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, The Illinois Manufacturers' Association and the | ||||||
15 | IMA Education Foundation are focused on education and | ||||||
16 | workforce to build a pipeline of workers for the manufacturing | ||||||
17 | sector, which includes championing two new manufacturing | ||||||
18 | academies, Career and Technical Education in K-12 schools, and | ||||||
19 | an apprenticeship tax credit; and | ||||||
20 | WHEREAS, The Illinois Manufacturers' Association's | ||||||
21 | Education Foundation provides scholarships to high school |

1 | students who enroll in manufacturing courses as well as | ||||||
2 | scholarships to community college students that are studying | ||||||
3 | skilled trades across the State; and | ||||||
4 | WHEREAS, In 2020, the Illinois Manufacturers' Association | ||||||
5 | created Makers Madness: The Coolest Thing Made in Illinois, | ||||||
6 | generating a competitive spirit among manufacturers in the | ||||||
7 | State to showcase the innovation and ingenuity of our State's | ||||||
8 | manufacturing sector; and | ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, The Illinois Manufacturers' Association hosted | ||||||
10 | its inaugural Makers on the Move bus tour to celebrate | ||||||
11 | Manufacturing Month in October 2022 across the State to | ||||||
12 | spotlight the great work Illinois' manufacturers do every day | ||||||
13 | and showcase modern manufacturing that is high-tech, clean, | ||||||
14 | diverse, and sustainable; in 2022, the Makers on the Move bus | ||||||
15 | tour made 20 stops at manufacturing facilities, colleges, and | ||||||
16 | high schools throughout the State and logged approximately | ||||||
17 | 2,100 miles in seven days by visiting and highlighting | ||||||
18 | exciting job opportunities in the diverse and innovative | ||||||
19 | industry; and | ||||||
20 | WHEREAS, The Illinois Manufacturers' Association's Women | ||||||
21 | in Illinois Manufacturing Council was created to provide | ||||||
22 | connection, education, mentorship, and fellowship to support | ||||||
23 | current women in the industry and encourage the next |

1 | generation; this active and engaged group has come together to | ||||||
2 | network and learn from each other, to learn about personal | ||||||
3 | development, and to intentionally showcase opportunities that | ||||||
4 | encourage girls in STEM careers; and | ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, During the COVID-19 pandemic, the Illinois | ||||||
6 | Manufacturers' Association played an integral part in | ||||||
7 | identifying essential manufacturers for producing life-saving | ||||||
8 | products for first responders and health care professions; the | ||||||
9 | IMA was asked by Governor JB Pritzker to co-chair the State's | ||||||
10 | Equipment Task Force and was appointed by Chicago Mayor Lori | ||||||
11 | Lightfoot to lead the B2B Recovery Group that included | ||||||
12 | manufacturing, transportation, warehousing, construction, and | ||||||
13 | utilities in the State; and | ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, The Illinois Manufacturers' Association hosted | ||||||
15 | its first annual Moving Makers Forward Education Summit in | ||||||
16 | 2022 that featured manufacturers, local economic development | ||||||
17 | councils, educators, and recruitment experts; panelists deeply | ||||||
18 | explored the current worker shortage, building a regional | ||||||
19 | talent pipeline, legislative proposals to assist with | ||||||
20 | expanding career exploration, and company culture that could | ||||||
21 | provide real solutions to incorporate in addressing local | ||||||
22 | workforce crises; and

23 | WHEREAS, The Illinois Manufacturers' Association was named |

1 | by the American Society of Association Executives as one of | ||||||
2 | the 100 Associations Saving the World for their efforts to | ||||||
3 | increase production of essential items, foster collaboration | ||||||
4 | by companies, increase efficiency, and address regulator | ||||||
5 | challenges; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, The Illinois Manufacturers' Association won the | ||||||
7 | inaugural 2022 Leadership Award from the Conference of State | ||||||
8 | Manufacturers Associations (COSMA) for their work to attract | ||||||
9 | and maintain the manufacturing workforce and for the | ||||||
10 | innovative ways they have helped their members address | ||||||
11 | workforce challenges; therefore, be it

12 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
13 | HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
14 | we congratulate the Illinois Manufacturers' Association on its | ||||||
15 | 130th anniversary; and be it further | ||||||
16 | RESOLVED, That we commend the Illinois Manufacturers' | ||||||
17 | Association for their commitment to advocating for Illinois | ||||||
18 | manufacturers and for recognizing the work Illinois | ||||||
19 | manufacturers do every day for our State and the nation; and be | ||||||
20 | it further
