HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives wish to congratulate Reverend Leslie Sanders 
4Sr. on the occasion of his 50 years  of ministry and for his 
5service as senior pastor to the Hope Presbyterian Church of 
6Chicago; and
  
 
7    WHEREAS, Rev. Sanders is a native of Memphis, Tennessee; 
8he attended  St. Peters Baptist Church, where he received his 
9call to ministry at the age of 18;  and
 
10    WHEREAS, Rev. Sanders began theological training at 
11Christian Brothers College in Memphis; he  continued  his 
12training at McCormick Theological Seminary in Chicago, where 
13he earned his Master of Theological Studies;

he was awarded an 
14honorary Doctorate of Divinity from the Mid-South Theological 
15Seminary of Indiana; and
  
 
16    WHEREAS, Rev. Sanders was recommended to the Hope 
17Presbyterian Church of Chicago by Rev. Dr. Floyd N. Rhodes in 
18February 1986; he formally became the church's stated supply 
19pastor in March 1987; and
  
 
20    WHEREAS, Rev. Sanders has demonstrated a dynamic style of 
21preaching through his leadership and his abundance of energy

1and enthusiasm; under his guidance, the church has experienced 
2rapid growth spiritually, numerically, and financially; and
  
 
3    WHEREAS, Rev. Sanders has also remained committed to 
4providing civic and community service; and
  
 
5    WHEREAS, Rev. Sanders is married to Lady Julie, and they 
6have two sons, two daughters, and six grandchildren; 
7therefore, be it
 
8    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE 
9HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 
10we congratulate Reverend Leslie Sanders Sr. on his 50 years of 
11ministry and for his service as senior pastor to the Hope 
12Presbyterian Church of Chicago; and be it further
  
 
13    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
14presented to Rev. Sanders as a symbol of our esteem and 
15respect.
