|
2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
3 | | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Mary |
4 | | Louise Hawthorne Jones; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Mary Jones was born to L.C. Hawthorne and Nannie |
6 | | Lee Hawthorne on November 16, 1933; she was the oldest |
7 | | daughter of six children; she married John Albert Jones Jr. at |
8 | | the age of 16, and they had eight children; and
|
9 | | WHEREAS, Mary Jones played the piano for her father's |
10 | | church at a young age; she continued playing the piano and |
11 | | became the church's first musician when her husband began to |
12 | | serve as pastor, and she served faithfully in ministry with |
13 | | her husband; during her tenure, she aided the church through |
14 | | cooking in the kitchen, planting a church garden, feeding |
15 | | members in her home, and providing housing for many; and
|
16 | | WHEREAS, Mary Jones was a creative, industrious, and |
17 | | highly intellectual woman of many talents and skills, |
18 | | including sewing, crafting, gardening, and cooking; she was |
19 | | especially known for her biscuits, salmon croquettes, banana |
20 | | pudding, dressing, coconut cake, and peach cobbler; and
|
21 | | WHEREAS, Mary Jones was known as a wise woman who was |

1 | | dedicated, loyal, and loving to her family while exemplifying |
2 | | a life of grace, class, and elegance; she will be remembered |
3 | | for her sweet smile, Sunday dinners, and candid humor, and she |
4 | | will forever be affectionately known as "Mother Rehoboth"; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Mary Jones was preceded in death by her children, |
6 | | Bruce, John III, and Martha, and her siblings, Willie L. |
7 | | Hawthorne, James L. Hawthorne, and Harold Hawthorne; and
|
8 | | WHEREAS, Mary Jones is survived by her children, Mirriam |
9 | | (Joseph) Knox, Arthur Jones, Stanley (the late Robin) Jones, |
10 | | Eva (Shannon) Curington, and Osmond (Leslie) Jones; 13 |
11 | | grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; two |
12 | | great-great-grandchildren; her sisters, Pauline Robinson and |
13 | | Eddie Mae Hawthorne; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, |
14 | | friends, and her Rehoboth family; therefore, be it
|
15 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE |
16 | | HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
17 | | we mourn the passing of Mary Louise Hawthorne Jones and extend |
18 | | our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who |
19 | | knew and loved her; and be it further

20 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
21 | | presented to the family of Mary Jones as an expression of our |
22 | | deepest sympathy.
