HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Mary
4Louise Hawthorne Jones; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Mary Jones was born to L.C. Hawthorne and Nannie
6Lee Hawthorne on November 16, 1933; she was the oldest
7daughter of six children; she married John Albert Jones Jr. at
8the age of 16, and they had eight children; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Mary Jones played the piano for her father's
10church at a young age; she continued playing the piano and
11became the church's first musician when her husband began to
12serve as pastor, and she served faithfully in ministry with
13her husband; during her tenure, she aided the church through
14cooking in the kitchen, planting a church garden, feeding
15members in her home, and providing housing for many; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Mary Jones was a creative, industrious, and
17highly intellectual woman of many talents and skills,
18including sewing, crafting, gardening, and cooking; she was
19especially known for her biscuits, salmon croquettes, banana
20pudding, dressing, coconut cake, and peach cobbler; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Mary Jones was known as a wise woman who was

1dedicated, loyal, and loving to her family while exemplifying
2a life of grace, class, and elegance; she will be remembered
3for her sweet smile, Sunday dinners, and candid humor, and she
4will forever be affectionately known as "Mother Rehoboth"; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Mary Jones was preceded in death by her children,
6Bruce, John III, and Martha, and her siblings, Willie L.
7Hawthorne, James L. Hawthorne, and Harold Hawthorne; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Mary Jones is survived by her children, Mirriam
9(Joseph) Knox, Arthur Jones, Stanley (the late Robin) Jones,
10Eva (Shannon) Curington, and Osmond (Leslie) Jones; 13
11grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; two
12great-great-grandchildren; her sisters, Pauline Robinson and
13Eddie Mae Hawthorne; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins,
14friends, and her Rehoboth family; therefore, be it
 
15    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
16HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
17we mourn the passing of Mary Louise Hawthorne Jones and extend
18our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who
19knew and loved her; and be it further
 
20    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
21presented to the family of Mary Jones as an expression of our
22deepest sympathy.
