2 | | WHEREAS, National Apprenticeship Week is celebrating its |
3 | | ninth anniversary of raising awareness of the vital role that |
4 | | Registered Apprenticeships play in providing opportunities to |
5 | | the people of Illinois by allowing apprentices to earn while |
6 | | they learn and preparing a pathway to good, quality jobs and |
7 | | well-paying careers and the ability to advance in those |
8 | | careers; and |
9 | | WHEREAS, The advancement and well-being of Illinois |
10 | | depends upon its ability to expand opportunities in its |
11 | | workforce that are inclusive of individuals who have been |
12 | | historically underserved, marginalized, and adversely affected |
13 | | by persistent poverty and inequality in their chosen fields; |
14 | | and |
15 | | WHEREAS, Registered Apprenticeship programs enable |
16 | | employers to develop and train their future workforce while |
17 | | offering career seekers affordable paths to secure high-paying |
18 | | jobs; and |
19 | | WHEREAS, Registered Apprenticeship programs are uniquely |
20 | | able to meet the changing demands of the economy and provide a |
21 | | path for all qualified individuals, including women, youth, |
22 | | people of color, rural communities, justice-involved |

1 | | individuals, and individuals with disabilities, to become |
2 | | apprentices and contribute to America's industries; and |
3 | | WHEREAS, Illinois recognizes that Registered |
4 | | Apprenticeships, a proven and industry-driven training model, |
5 | | is a key strategy to improving job quality and creating access |
6 | | to good-paying, family-sustaining jobs for all, starting with |
7 | | youth and young adults, while addressing some of our nation's |
8 | | pressing workforce challenges such as rebuilding our country's |
9 | | infrastructure, addressing critical supply chain demands, |
10 | | supporting a clean energy workforce, modernizing our |
11 | | cybersecurity response, and responding to care economy issues; |
12 | | and |
13 | | WHEREAS, The United States Department of Labor is bringing |
14 | | together employers, industry associations, labor |
15 | | organizations, community-based organizations, workforce |
16 | | partners, education providers, and governments to celebrate |
17 | | National Apprenticeship Week from November 13-19, 2023; and |
18 | | WHEREAS, Themes being highlighted for National |
19 | | Apprenticeship Week 2023 include apprenticeships for youth, |
20 | | apprenticeships in new and emerging industries, expanding |
21 | | apprenticeships to underserved populations, women in |
22 | | apprenticeships, and apprenticeships for veterans; therefore, |
