HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Mother
4Gladys "Sweet" Ivory of Peoria, who passed away on February 6,
52024; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Mother Ivory was born in York, Alabama to Tom Sr.
7and Armetta (Pearson) Sturdivant on November 8, 1937; she
8married Pastor Jeffery Ivory Sr. in Meridian, Mississippi on
9August 20, 1953; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Mother Ivory worked at Caterpillar for 34 years;
11and
 
12    WHEREAS, Mother Ivory was the First Lady at Grace Baptist
13Church for over 50 years; she served on the women's ministry
14and was a member of the Voices of Heaven choir; she loved
15singing and was known for her
melody arrangements of praise
16and worship songs during devotion on Sunday mornings; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Mother Ivory loved spending time with her family
18and wearing stylish hats; she enjoyed knitting, cooking,
19singing, and bowling in a league; she was known for her loving
20and compassionate heart, being the type of person who would
21take in someone in need, and she helped mentor young women gain

1life skills through the Valeska Hinton GED program; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Mother Ivory was preceded in death by her husband
3of 60 years, Jeffery; her parents; her son, Jeffery Ivory Jr.;
4her daughter, Erica Ivory; her sisters, Dorothy Lard and Annie
5Nelson; her granddaughter, Glenda Cayson; and her grandson,
6Troy Irving Jr.; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Mother Ivory is survived by her sons, Ricky
8(Carolyn) Ivory, Larry (Janis) Ivory, Rodney (Jennifer) Ivory,
9and Darren Ivory; her daughters, Lorraine (William) Sephus,
10Beverly Cameron, Teresa (Lonnie) Ivory-Hayes, and Ariel Ivory;
1121 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; 22
12great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, other
13family members, and friends; therefore, be it
 
14    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
15HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
16we mourn the passing of Mother Gladys "Sweet" Ivory and extend
17our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who
18knew and loved her; and be it further
 
19    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
20presented to the family of Mother Ivory as an expression of our
21deepest sympathy.
