2 | WHEREAS, The Illinois House of Representatives wishes to | ||||||
3 | congratulate the Kaskaskia College Blue Angels Softball Team | ||||||
4 | on winning the 2023 NJCAA Region XXIV championship and | ||||||
5 | establishing a new school record of 49-18; and | ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, The Kaskaskia College Blue Angels Softball Team | ||||||
7 | began the season with a slow start and a 0-4 record, but they | ||||||
8 | were able to turn it around throughout the season, becoming | ||||||
9 | the Region 24 Champions for the first time, becoming the | ||||||
10 | Central District Champions for the first time, becoming an | ||||||
11 | NJCAA World Series Qualifier for the first time, and being | ||||||
12 | ranked seventh in the nation out of 221 D-1 schools; and | ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, The Kaskaskia College Blue Angels Softball Team | ||||||
14 | ranked in the top 20 nationally in ten different TEAM | ||||||
15 | statistical categories, including Games Played with 67, | ||||||
16 | ranking second in the nation, At Bats with 1,805, ranking | ||||||
17 | second in the nation, Hits with 716, ranking second in the | ||||||
18 | nation, Innings Pitched, ranking second in the nation, | ||||||
19 | Pitching Strike Outs with 432, ranking second in the nation, | ||||||
20 | Batting Average of .397, ranking sixth in the nation, Stolen | ||||||
21 | Bases with 156, ranking 13th in the nation, Pitching Strike | ||||||
22 | Outs per seven innings with 7.7, ranking 17th in the nation, | ||||||
23 | Runs Batted In with 446, ranking 17th in the nation, and On |

1 | Base Percentage of .446, ranking 20th in the nation; and | ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, The Kaskaskia College Blue Angels Softball Team | ||||||
3 | athletes have performed just as well in the classroom as they | ||||||
4 | have on the field with a collective GPA of 3.64, qualifying for | ||||||
5 | NJCAA Division 1 Academic American Team recognition; and | ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, The Kaskaskia College Blue Angels Softball Team | ||||||
7 | includes players Maddie Bailey, Megan Bailey, Ashlyn Colvis, | ||||||
8 | Sydnee Garrett, Josie Grunloh, Mikayla Healy, Macy Jett, Macey | ||||||
9 | Lentz, Haley Major, Karlie McKenzie, Kadee Milligan, Amber | ||||||
10 | Russell, Aspen Schmidt, Rancey Skaggs, and Ivy Smart; and | ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, The Kaskaskia College Blue Angels Softball Team | ||||||
12 | coaches include Head Coach John Barnes, Assistant Coach Shawn | ||||||
13 | Garrett, Assistant Coach Joe Healy, and Assistant Coach | ||||||
14 | Franceska Windler; and | ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, Head Coach John Barnes was awarded the coach of | ||||||
16 | the year for the NJCAA D-I Region 24 and the NJCAA D-I Central | ||||||
17 | District; therefore, be it | ||||||
18 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
19 | HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
20 | we congratulate the Kaskaskia College Blue Angels Softball | ||||||
21 | Team on winning the 2023 NJCAA Region XXIV championship and |
