2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Alan L. | ||||||
4 | "Al" Larson, the former and longest-serving Mayor of the | ||||||
5 | Village of Schaumburg, who passed away on March 19, 2024; and | ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Al Larson was born to a Chicagoan mother and | ||||||
7 | Swedish immigrant father on October 21, 1938; he was an Eagle | ||||||
8 | Scout; he graduated from Lane Tech College Prep High School in | ||||||
9 | 1956; he and his wife, Nancy, moved to Schaumburg in 1969, | ||||||
10 | where they raised their five children; he earned an Associate | ||||||
11 | of Science from William Rainey Harper College in Palatine in | ||||||
12 | 1972; and | ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, Al Larson was a dedicated servant to the Village | ||||||
14 | of Schaumburg for more than 45 years; he became involved in | ||||||
15 | politics in the early 1970s; he was appointed chair of the | ||||||
16 | Schaumburg Environmental Committee and as a member of the | ||||||
17 | Zoning Board of Appeals by then-Mayor Bob Atcher in 1974; he | ||||||
18 | served as a trustee on the Village Board from 1975 to 1987, | ||||||
19 | working alongside Mayors Ray Kessell and Herb Aigner to | ||||||
20 | establish and implement village policy; and | ||||||
21 | WHEREAS, Al Larson served as Mayor of the Village of | ||||||
22 | Schaumburg for eight terms from 1987 to 2019; for over three |

1 | decades, he dedicated himself to serving the residents of | ||||||
2 | Schaumburg, priding himself on being highly accessible and | ||||||
3 | responsive to their needs; he was actively engaged in the | ||||||
4 | community and focused on improving the quality of life for | ||||||
5 | those that lived, worked, and conducted business in the | ||||||
6 | village; and | ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, Al Larson was ardently dedicated to the arts, and | ||||||
8 | this dedication was recognized when the Schaumburg Prairie | ||||||
9 | Center was renamed in his honor as the Al Larson Prairie Center | ||||||
10 | for the Arts in 2017; and | ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, Al Larson was a naturalist, and he had a lifelong | ||||||
12 | love and appreciation of nature; and | ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, Al Larson will be remembered as a visionary | ||||||
14 | leader whose guidance and service made a lasting, positive | ||||||
15 | impact on the Village of Schaumburg; and | ||||||
16 | WHEREAS, Al Larson is survived by his wife of 60 years; his | ||||||
17 | children and their spouses, Michael, Catherine, Elizabeth, | ||||||
18 | David, and Jennifer; 12 grandchildren; and his sister, Lorna; | ||||||
19 | therefore, be it | ||||||
20 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
21 | HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |

2 | longest-serving Mayor of the Village of Schaumburg, and extend | ||||||
3 | our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who | ||||||
4 | knew and loved him; and be it further | ||||||
5 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
6 | presented to the family of Al Larson as an expression of our | ||||||
7 | deepest sympathy. |
