1 | AN ACT concerning regulation.
| ||||||
2 | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
| ||||||
3 | represented in the General Assembly:
| ||||||
4 | Section 5. The Podiatric Medical Practice Act of 1987 is | ||||||
5 | amended by changing Section 5 and by adding Section 20.6 as | ||||||
6 | follows:
| ||||||
7 | (225 ILCS 100/5) (from Ch. 111, par. 4805)

8 | (Section scheduled to be repealed on January 1, 2028)
| ||||||
9 | Sec. 5. Definitions. As used in this Act:
| ||||||
10 | (A) "Department" means the Department of Financial and
| ||||||
11 | Professional Regulation.
| ||||||
12 | (B) "Secretary" means the Secretary of Financial and | ||||||
13 | Professional Regulation.
| ||||||
14 | (C) "Board" means the Podiatric Medical Licensing Board | ||||||
15 | appointed
by
the Secretary.
| ||||||
16 | (D) "Podiatric medicine" or "podiatry" means : | ||||||
17 | (1) the
diagnosis, medical,
physical, or surgical | ||||||
18 | treatment of the ailments of the human foot, including | ||||||
19 | amputations as defined in this Section ; . | ||||||
20 | (2) "Podiatric medicine" or "podiatry" includes the | ||||||
21 | provision of topical and local anesthesia and moderate and | ||||||
22 | deep sedation, as defined by Department rule adopted under | ||||||
23 | the Medical Practice Act of 1987 ; and |

1 | (3) vaccination of patients 18 years of age and older | ||||||
2 | in accordance with Section 20.6 upon completion of | ||||||
3 | appropriate training . | ||||||
4 | For the purposes of this Act, the terms podiatric | ||||||
5 | medicine,
podiatry and chiropody have the same definition.
| ||||||
6 | (E) "Human foot" means the ankle and soft tissue which | ||||||
7 | insert
into the
foot as well as the foot.
| ||||||
8 | (F) "Podiatric physician" means a physician licensed to | ||||||
9 | practice
podiatric medicine.
| ||||||
10 | (G) "Postgraduate training" means a minimum one-year | ||||||
11 | postdoctoral
structured and supervised educational experience | ||||||
12 | approved by the Council on
Podiatric Medical Education of the | ||||||
13 | American Podiatric Medical Association
which includes | ||||||
14 | residencies and preceptorships.
| ||||||
15 | (H) "Amputations" means amputations of the human foot, in | ||||||
16 | whole or in part, that are limited to 10 centimeters proximal | ||||||
17 | to the tibial talar articulation. | ||||||
18 | (I) "Email address of record" means the designated email | ||||||
19 | address recorded by the Department in the applicant's | ||||||
20 | application file or the licensee's license file, as maintained | ||||||
21 | by the Department's licensure maintenance unit. | ||||||
22 | (J) "Address of record" means the designated address | ||||||
23 | recorded by the Department in the applicant's or licensee's | ||||||
24 | application file or license file as maintained by the | ||||||
25 | Department's licensure maintenance unit. | ||||||

1 | (225 ILCS 100/20.6 new) | ||||||
2 | Sec. 20.6. Vaccinations. A podiatric physician may provide | ||||||
3 | vaccinations to patients 18 years of age and older upon | ||||||
4 | completion of appropriate training. The training shall include | ||||||
5 | how to address contraindications and adverse reactions as | ||||||
6 | established by rule. Vaccinations administered by a podiatric | ||||||
7 | physician shall be limited to influenza (inactivated influenza | ||||||
8 | vaccine and live attenuated influenza intranasal vaccine), | ||||||
9 | tetanus, and SARS-CoV-2. Vaccination of a patient by a | ||||||
10 | podiatric physician shall be documented in the patient's | ||||||
11 | record and the record shall be retained in accordance with | ||||||
12 | current recordkeeping standards. The podiatric physician shall | ||||||
13 | notify the patient's primary care physician of each dose of | ||||||
14 | vaccine administered to the patient and shall enter all | ||||||
15 | patient level data or update the patient's current record. The | ||||||
16 | podiatric physician may provide this notice to the patient's | ||||||
17 | physician electronically.
