2023 and 2024 SB2600 Introduced 10/18/2023, by Sen. Rachel Ventura SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED: | | | Amends the Medical Patient Rights Act. Provides that, except as otherwise required by law, health care providers shall not charge a patient or require the payment of a fee for a missed or late appointment. Provides that nothing shall be construed to limit health care providers from developing and implementing any incentive program to encourage patient adherence to scheduled appointments. Provides that any health care provider that violates the provision is guilty of a petty offense and shall be fined $500 per violation. |

1 | | AN ACT concerning health. |
2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, |
3 | | represented in the General Assembly: |
4 | | Section 5. The Medical Patient Rights Act is amended by |
5 | | adding Section 8 as follows: |
6 | | (410 ILCS 50/8 new) |
7 | | Sec. 8. Missed and late appointment fees. |
8 | | (a) Except as otherwise required by law, health care |
9 | | providers shall not charge a patient or require the payment of |
10 | | a fee for a missed or late appointment. |
11 | | (b) Nothing in this Section shall be construed to limit |
12 | | health care providers from developing and implementing an |
13 | | incentive program to encourage patient adherence to scheduled |
14 | | appointments. |
15 | | (c) Any health care provider that violates this Section is |
16 | | guilty of a petty offense and shall be fined $500 per |
17 | | violation. |
