1 | | AN ACT concerning elections. |
2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, |
3 | | represented in the General Assembly: |
4 | | Section 5. The Election Code is amended by changing |
5 | | Section 28-8 as follows: |
6 | | (10 ILCS 5/28-8) (from Ch. 46, par. 28-8) |
7 | | Sec. 28-8. If a referendum held in accordance with Section |
8 | | 28-7 of this Act involved the question of whether a unit of |
9 | | local government shall become a home rule unit or shall |
10 | | continue cease to be a home rule unit and if that referendum |
11 | | passed, then the clerk of that unit of local government shall, |
12 | | within 45 days after the referendum, file with the Secretary |
13 | | of State a certified statement showing the results of the |
14 | | referendum and the resulting status of the unit of local |
15 | | government as a home rule unit or a non-home rule unit. The |
16 | | Secretary of State shall maintain such certified statements in |
17 | | his office as a public record. |
18 | | The question of whether a unit of local government shall |
19 | | become a home rule unit shall be submitted in substantially |
20 | | the following form: |
21 | | Shall (name of the unit of local government) become a home |
22 | | rule unit? |
23 | | Votes must be recorded as "yes" or "no". |
