SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, An estimated 50,000 Americans and 1 million
3people worldwide have been diagnosed with tuberous sclerosis
4complex (TSC), a genetic disease with no cure; and
 
5    WHEREAS, TSC is often a devastating disorder that causes
6tumors to form in vital organs, including the brain, heart,
7kidneys, skin, liver, and lungs; and
 
8    WHEREAS, The disease is also the leading genetic cause of
9both epilepsy and autism; and
 
10    WHEREAS, TSC affects some people severely and others so
11mildly it often goes undiagnosed; and
 
12    WHEREAS, The incidence of TSC is as common as Lou Gehrig's
13disease (ALS) or cystic fibrosis, so increased awareness is
14vital; and
 
15    WHEREAS, The Tuberous Sclerosis Alliance and other groups
16around the world have joined together to promote awareness of
17the disorder to ensure people with TSC get the best possible
18treatment and proper diagnosis; therefore, be it
 
19    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL

1ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we declare May 15, 2023
2as Tuberous Sclerosis Complex Awareness Day in the State of
3Illinois; and be it further
 
4    RESOLVED, That we urge the citizens of Illinois to support
5the search for a cure and assist those individuals and
6families who deal with this challenging disease on a daily
7basis.
