2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to | ||||||
3 | congratulate United States Attorney for the Northern District | ||||||
4 | of Illinois John R. Lausch Jr. on his upcoming retirement; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, John Lausch was born in 1970; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, John Lausch received his Bachelor of Arts cum | ||||||
7 | laude from Harvard University and his Juris Doctor cum laude | ||||||
8 | from the Northwestern University School of Law; and | ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, While in law school, John Lausch clerked for | ||||||
10 | Michael Stephen Kanne of the United States Court of Appeals | ||||||
11 | for the Seventh Circuit; and | ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, John Lausch worked as an assistant United States | ||||||
13 | attorney for the Northern District of Illinois from 1999 to | ||||||
14 | 2010, where he tried more than 20 jury cases involving | ||||||
15 | racketeering, fraud, narcotics, extortion, and firearm | ||||||
16 | offenses; and | ||||||
17 | WHEREAS, During this time, John Lausch also served as | ||||||
18 | deputy chief in the narcotics and gangs section for several | ||||||
19 | years and helped lead the district's anti-gang and Project | ||||||
20 | Safe Neighborhoods programs; and |

1 | WHEREAS, In 2010, John Lausch left the Office of the U.S. | ||||||
2 | Attorney and went into private practice until 2017; and | ||||||
3 | WHEREAS, In November 2017, John Lausch returned to the | ||||||
4 | Office of the U.S. Attorney in the role of United States | ||||||
5 | Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois; and | ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, As the top federal law enforcement official for | ||||||
7 | the Northern District of Illinois, he oversaw a region that | ||||||
8 | included 18 counties, the City of Chicago, and nine million | ||||||
9 | people; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, As the U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of | ||||||
11 | Illinois, John Lausch handled several high-profile public | ||||||
12 | corruption investigations that led to indictments and | ||||||
13 | convictions of many prominent elected and public officials; | ||||||
14 | and
| ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, John Lausch has announced his intention to retire | ||||||
16 | from the Office of the U.S. Attorney and return to the private | ||||||
17 | sector in the spring of 2023; therefore, be it

18 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL | ||||||
19 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate United | ||||||
20 | States Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois John R. |
