2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | ||||||
3 | to learn of the death of Richard John DuSold of Park Ridge, who | ||||||
4 | passed away on February 8, 2023; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Richard DuSold was born to John and Ruth DuSold | ||||||
6 | on March 31, 1938; he grew up in the Rogers Park neighborhood | ||||||
7 | of Chicago and attended Stone Grammar School; he graduated | ||||||
8 | second in his class from Lane Tech High School in 1956, where | ||||||
9 | he was a commander in the ROTC; he financed his own education, | ||||||
10 | starting at Purdue University and then the University of | ||||||
11 | Illinois at Navy Pier before earning his Bachelor of Science | ||||||
12 | from Northwestern University; he married Dorothy in September | ||||||
13 | 1959, and he continued to work in Chicago until they moved to | ||||||
14 | Park Ridge; and
| ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, Richard DuSold worked at Continental Bank; while | ||||||
16 | working full time, he completed his MBA from Northwestern | ||||||
17 | University and earned an officer position at the bank; during | ||||||
18 | his tenure, he ran the book donation drive to benefit Chicago | ||||||
19 | Public Schools and represented the bank as an active member of | ||||||
20 | the Chicago United Way; and
| ||||||
21 | WHEREAS, Richard DuSold dedicated his time to the Park | ||||||
22 | Ridge community; he served as a member of the District 64 |

1 | School Board and helped to form Open Gate, a gifted and | ||||||
2 | talented program for children in District 64; he volunteered | ||||||
3 | for the local variety shows at Roosevelt and Jefferson | ||||||
4 | schools, building props and sets while also working with the | ||||||
5 | stage crew; he was a member of the Park Ridge Garden Club, and | ||||||
6 | his garden was showcased on one of the club's garden walks; he | ||||||
7 | also gave his time to building props and sets for both the | ||||||
8 | Oakton Ice Arena and Skokie Skatium ice shows for many years, | ||||||
9 | where he further helped both rinks with skating competitions; | ||||||
10 | and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, Richard DuSold held a number of leadership | ||||||
12 | positions; he was president of the Friends of the Park Ridge | ||||||
13 | Library and ran the semiannual book sales for over 30 years; he | ||||||
14 | was a member of the Park Ridge Heritage Committee and helped to | ||||||
15 | get two books on Park Ridge published; he served on the board | ||||||
16 | of the Park Ridge Community Fund for 34 years; he belonged on | ||||||
17 | the board of the Park Ridge Civic Orchestra, where he also | ||||||
18 | acted as stage manager; and
| ||||||
19 | WHEREAS, Richard DuSold was very proud of his daughter's | ||||||
20 | accomplishments in school and ice skating, and he always made | ||||||
21 | it a point to attend all of her activities; and
| ||||||
22 | WHEREAS, Richard DuSold was preceded in death by his | ||||||
23 | parents; and

1 | WHEREAS, Richard DuSold is survived by his wife of 63 | ||||||
2 | years, Dorothy; his daughter, Elizabeth; his son-in-law, | ||||||
3 | Robert O'Connor; his grandchildren, Alex and Pixel | ||||||
4 | DuSold-O'Connor; his niece, Laurel (Paul Squitteri) | ||||||
5 | Gorman-Squitteri; his nephews, Brice Gorman and Lee DuSold; a | ||||||
6 | great-grandniece; and two great-grandnephews; therefore, be it
| ||||||
7 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL | ||||||
8 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
9 | Richard John DuSold and extend our sincere condolences to his | ||||||
10 | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | ||||||
11 | further

12 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
13 | presented to the family of Richard DuSold as an expression of | ||||||
14 | our deepest sympathy.
