SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Michael Ray "Mike" Cooper of Hamilton,
4who passed away on January 30, 2023; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Mike Cooper was born to Albert Leroy and Margaret
6Maxine (West) Cooper in Keokuk, Iowa on April 9, 1958; he
7served in the U.S. Army during Operation Desert Storm and was
8stationed in Germany; he also served in the National Guard for
913 years; he was honorably discharged; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Mike Cooper was employed as a caretaker at Keokuk
11National Cemetery in Keokuk, Iowa from 1999 until his
12retirement in 2019; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Mike Cooper was a member of the Hamilton VFW;
14during his free time, he enjoyed watching TV, listening to the
15radio, and hunting for mushrooms and geodes; he loved taking
16drives around the area, and he frequented Menards and Casey's;
17his favorite hobbies included the Wordscapes app and
18photography; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Mike Cooper was known for his big heart and for
20always helping others; and

1    WHEREAS, Mike Cooper was preceded in death by his parents;
2his brothers, Albert "Punk" Cooper and Roger Cooper; his
3sister, Norma Jones; and his grandson, Christopher Gonzales;
4and
 
5    WHEREAS, Mike Cooper is survived by his daughter, Brooke
6Cooper; his sister, Marge Vickers; his grandchildren, Chance
7Cooper and Nathan Gonzales; his great-grandson, Cohan Michael
8Cooper; his several nieces, nephews, and cousins; and his
9cats, Snowball and Tawny; therefore, be it
 
10    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
11ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
12Michael Ray "Mike" Cooper and extend our sincere condolences
13to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be
14it further
 
15    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16presented to the family of Mike Cooper as an expression of our
17deepest sympathy.
