SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Donald E. "Donnie" Blakeman of
4Taylorville, who passed away on March 15, 2023; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Donnie Blakeman was born in May Township to
6Wilbur and Mabel (Moomey) Blakeman on October 13, 1934; he
7served in the U.S. Air Force; he married Mary Agnes DeMichael
8in Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Stonington on June 27,
91959; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Donnie Blakeman worked for Caterpillar for many
11years, and after retirement, he worked for several area
12farmers; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Donnie Blakeman was active with Stonington
14American Legion Post 257, where he served as adjutant for many
15years; he served his community in a number of other ways,
16including as president of the board for Stonington area
17schools and with the Stonington Village Board and the
18Stonington Fire Department; he was also an active member of
19Holy Trinity Catholic Church; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Donnie Blakeman played softball for several years
21and, along with his brother Leroy, umpired games for 20 years;

1he was a fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and enjoyed playing
2cards with his friends at the American Legion and watching the
3Game Show Network; he never passed up a bowl of ice cream, and
4more than anything, he loved spending time with his family,
5especially his grandchildren; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Donnie Blakeman was preceded in death by his wife
7of 60 years, Mary; his daughter, Margaret; his parents; four
8brothers; and four sisters; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Donnie Blakeman is survived by his children, John
10F. (Shannon) Blakeman, Joseph Blakeman, Michael (Denise)
11Blakeman, Daniel Blakeman, Thomas Blakeman, and Mary "Missy"
12(Todd) Wemhoener; his grandchildren, Lauren Blakeman, John R.
13Blakeman, Katie Wemhoener, Dustin Blome, Aaron Blome, and
14Ashley Kochniarczyk; several great-grandchildren; his sister,
15Marilyn Wattelet; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins;
16therefore, be it
 
17    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
18ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
19Donald E. "Donnie" Blakeman and extend our sincere condolences
20to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be
21it further
 
22    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
