| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are pleased to | ||||||
| 3 | join Danville in celebrating the commemoration of the 125th | ||||||
| 4 | anniversary of the Danville branch of the VA Illiana Health | ||||||
| 5 | Care System, the Danville VA Medical Center; and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, The Danville Branch of the National Home for | ||||||
| 7 | Disabled Volunteer Soldiers was founded in 1898 and was the | ||||||
| 8 | eighth of ten "homes" established by the National Home for | ||||||
| 9 | Disabled Volunteer Soldiers nationwide between 1866 and 1929; | ||||||
| 10 | and | ||||||
| 11 | WHEREAS, Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives | ||||||
| 12 | Joseph Cannon of Danville played an important role in the | ||||||
| 13 | creation of the Danville branch of the National Home for | ||||||
| 14 | Disabled Volunteer Soldiers; and
| ||||||
| 15 | WHEREAS, The facility was developed to provide long-term | ||||||
| 16 | health care and maintenance for the thousands of disabled or | ||||||
| 17 | elderly veterans who had served in the Union forces during the | ||||||
| 18 | American Civil War, and it presaged the modern system of | ||||||
| 19 | veterans' medical centers; and
| ||||||
| 20 | WHEREAS, Illinois had a significant need for a home, | ||||||
| 21 | sending more than a quarter of a million enlisted men to serve | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | in the Civil War, with more than 34,000 laying down their lives | ||||||
| 2 | for the Union cause; and
| ||||||
| 3 | WHEREAS, The VA Illiana Health Care System is dedicated to | ||||||
| 4 | providing veterans with health care services at six locations, | ||||||
| 5 | serving a 34-county area of central Illinois and west-central | ||||||
| 6 | Indiana; and | ||||||
| 7 | WHEREAS, In response to the need for affordable housing | ||||||
| 8 | for veterans and their families, the VA Illiana Health Care | ||||||
| 9 | System collaborated with the opening of Cannon Place in 2017 | ||||||
| 10 | and expanded Veterans Villages in 2020; and
| ||||||
| 11 | WHEREAS, The VA Illiana Health Care System is one of the | ||||||
| 12 | leading health care systems, serving veterans in the VA Great | ||||||
| 13 | Lakes Network; and | ||||||
| 14 | WHEREAS, In 2022, the VA Illiana Health Care System | ||||||
| 15 | provided 337,981 in-person visits, provided 32,854 bed days of | ||||||
| 16 | care, and provided 6,573 telehealth visits, showcasing their | ||||||
| 17 | dedication to helping those who served with the care they | ||||||
| 18 | deserve; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 19 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL | ||||||
| 20 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we commemorate the | ||||||
| 21 | 125th anniversary of the Danville branch of the VA Illiana | ||||||

| 1 | Health Care System, the Danville VA Medical Center, and | ||||||
| 2 | commend them for their dedication to our State's veterans; and | ||||||
| 3 | be it further
| ||||||
| 4 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 5 | presented to the Danville VA Medical Center as a symbol of our | ||||||
| 6 | respect and esteem.
