2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to |
3 | | congratulate Stanley Campbell on the occasion of his |
4 | | retirement as executive director of Rockford Urban Ministries; |
5 | | and
|
6 | | WHEREAS, Rockford Urban Ministries (RUM), located at 201 |
7 | | Seventh Street in Rockford, is an outreach organization of the |
8 | | United Methodist Church and a longtime champion of social |
9 | | justice causes; and
|
10 | | WHEREAS, Stanley Campbell was born in Eau Claire, |
11 | | Wisconsin; he was raised and has lived in Rockford since he was |
12 | | five years old; he served in the U.S. Army, and he pursued |
13 | | peace activism upon returning from Vietnam; he earned his |
14 | | degree in human services from Rock Valley College; and
|
15 | | WHEREAS, Stanley Campbell co-founded the Rock Valley Food |
16 | | Pantry, northern Illinois' largest food pantry; his ability to |
17 | | unite and organize others behind causes, including hunger, |
18 | | homelessness, and anti-violence efforts, caught the attention |
19 | | of the Rockford Urban Ministries Council, which selected him |
20 | | as the first non-clergy member to lead the organization in |
21 | | 1985; and

1 | | WHEREAS, During his tenure as executive director, Stanley |
2 | | Campbell co-founded the Rockford Interfaith Council, |
3 | | co-founded Promised Land Employment Services, founded Rockford |
4 | | Peace and Justice, co-founded the Rockford CROP Hunger Walk, |
5 | | served as project lead for the needle exchange program Harm |
6 | | Reduction Outreach, founded the JustGoods Fair Trade |
7 | | Marketplace, and was a Rockford facilitator for Northern |
8 | | Illinois Justice for Our Neighbors, a ministry that welcomes |
9 | | immigrants to Northern Illinois churches; and
|
10 | | WHEREAS, For over four decades, Stanley Campbell has been |
11 | | identifying and meeting community needs and fighting to right |
12 | | injustices; his work has made an indelible impact on the |
13 | | community of Rockford; and
|
14 | | WHEREAS, After nearly 40 years, Stanley Campbell will |
15 | | conclude serving as executive director on July 1, 2023; |
16 | | therefore, be it
|
17 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL |
18 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate |
19 | | Stanley Campbell on his retirement as executive director of |
20 | | the Rockford Urban Ministries (RUM), commend him for his |
21 | | dedicated service to the community of Rockford, and wish him |
22 | | the best in his future endeavors; and be it further
