2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | ||||||
3 | to learn of the death of Dr. Marion S. Panepinto of | ||||||
4 | Springfield, who passed away on May 18, 2023; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Dr. Panepinto was born in Waco, Texas to Dr. John | ||||||
6 | Joseph and Josephine
Cimo Panepinto on May 20, 1938; he | ||||||
7 | graduated cum laude from the University of Notre Dame in 1960; | ||||||
8 | he married Dorothy "Bebe" Driscoll on May 26, 1962; he | ||||||
9 | graduated cum laude from the St. Louis University School of | ||||||
10 | Medicine in 1963, where he was a member of the
Alpha Omega | ||||||
11 | Alpha Honor Medical Society; after completing an internship at | ||||||
12 | St. Louis
University Hospitals, he served his country with the | ||||||
13 | U.S. Army during the Vietnam War as a battalion surgeon with | ||||||
14 | the
First Infantry Division and was awarded the Bronze Star, | ||||||
15 | the Combat Medic Badge, and the Vietnam
Service Medal; he | ||||||
16 | received an honorable discharge from the Army and completed | ||||||
17 | his specialty training
at the University of Iowa Hospitals in | ||||||
18 | internal medicine and cardiology; and
| ||||||
19 | WHEREAS, Dr. Panepinto joined Springfield Clinic in the | ||||||
20 | early days of development of cardiology and cardiac surgery in
| ||||||
21 | Springfield in 1970; he was a co-director of the intensive | ||||||
22 | care unit at
Memorial Medical Center; he was a member of the | ||||||
23 | teaching faculty of Southern
Illinois University School of |

| |||||||
1 | Medicine since its inception and retired as a clinical | ||||||
2 | professor of
medicine; and | ||||||
3 | WHEREAS, Dr. Panepinto was past president of the Sangamon | ||||||
4 | County Medical Society and the Sangamon
County Heart | ||||||
5 | Association; he served on the boards of Contact Ministries, | ||||||
6 | the YMCA, and
the Memorial Medical Center Foundation; he was a | ||||||
7 | member of the Sanibel Current Events Group, the Sanibel
| ||||||
8 | Bicycle Club, the Sanibel-Captiva Conservation Foundation, and | ||||||
9 | the Porch Think Tank, where he
cherished his time spent with | ||||||
10 | friends enjoying coffee and current events; and | ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, Dr. Panepinto's years of marriage were filled | ||||||
12 | with countless family celebrations, travel, and the building
| ||||||
13 | of lifetime memories with the love of his life whom he met in | ||||||
14 | Europe on a college class trip; he
reveled in his role as | ||||||
15 | father and grandfather, from fishing, golfing, boating, and | ||||||
16 | biking to partaking in
spirited family dinners; he was a | ||||||
17 | voracious reader and had a fondness for history and World War | ||||||
18 | II; and | ||||||
19 | WHEREAS, Dr. Panepinto was compassionate in all facets of | ||||||
20 | his life; he was a devoted friend and relative to many, | ||||||
21 | especially in their time of need; he always put his patients | ||||||
22 | first, regardless of their status; and

1 | WHEREAS, Dr. Panepinto is survived by his wife of 61 | ||||||
2 | years, Dorothy; his daughters, Celeste
(Robert) Marsh III, Dr. | ||||||
3 | Julie Panepinto (Dr. David Brousseau), Michele (Michael) | ||||||
4 | Mannion, and Ellen (Mark)
Meyer; his grandchildren, Robert | ||||||
5 | Marsh IV, Ethan Marsh, Peter Marsh, Joseph Brousseau, Andrew
| ||||||
6 | Brousseau, Thomas Brousseau, Dr. Matthew Mannion, Ellen | ||||||
7 | Mannion, Colin Mannion, Aileen Mannion, Katherine Meyer, | ||||||
8 | Meredith Meyer, and Luke Meyer; his sister, Mary Celeste | ||||||
9 | Panepinto Greenwell; several nieces and
nephews; and his | ||||||
10 | cousin, Dr. Philip (Diane) Cimo; therefore, be it

11 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL | ||||||
12 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
13 | Dr. Marion S. Panepinto and extend our sincere condolences to | ||||||
14 | his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | ||||||
15 | further

16 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
17 | presented to the family of Dr. Panepinto as an expression of | ||||||
18 | our deepest sympathy.
