2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | ||||||
3 | to learn of the death of Thomas F. "Tom" Swoik Sr. of | ||||||
4 | Springfield, who passed away on July 21, 2023; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Tom Swoik was born to Thomas Anton and Ruth Marie | ||||||
6 | Hodack Swoik in Springfield on June 27, 1948; he graduated | ||||||
7 | from Springfield High School in 1966; he earned his Associate | ||||||
8 | of Arts in Business Management from Springfield College in | ||||||
9 | Illinois in 1968; he received his Bachelor of Science in | ||||||
10 | Business Administration from Murray State University in | ||||||
11 | Murray, Kentucky in 1971; he married Gayle Davis in | ||||||
12 | Springfield on May 6, 1972; he earned his Master of Arts in | ||||||
13 | Business Education from the University of Illinois at | ||||||
14 | Springfield in 1983; and
| ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, Tom Swoik served as accounting manager for City | ||||||
16 | Water, Light & Power, comptroller of Springfield School | ||||||
17 | District 186, accounting instructor at Lincoln Land Community | ||||||
18 | College, reimbursement manager of Nutrition at the Illinois | ||||||
19 | State Board of Education, deputy director of Program Support | ||||||
20 | for the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services, | ||||||
21 | and deputy administrator of Finance and Administration for the | ||||||
22 | Illinois Gaming Board until his retirement in 2001; and

1 | WHEREAS, After retiring, Tom Swoik was employed as | ||||||
2 | executive director of the Illinois Casino Gaming Association, | ||||||
3 | during which time he served as a lobbyist, until late 2021; he | ||||||
4 | then served as business manager for St. Agnes Parish until his | ||||||
5 | passing; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Tom Swoik was involved in St. Agnes Parish and | ||||||
7 | served on the St. Agnes School Board; he was also a member of | ||||||
8 | the Springfield Rotary Club; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, Tom Swoik was known for his affability, | ||||||
10 | generosity, and kindness; he will be remembered for the | ||||||
11 | unconditional love he held for his family; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, Tom Swoik was preceded in death by his parents; | ||||||
13 | his stepfather, Imy J. Feuer; his sister, Carolyn (Kerry) | ||||||
14 | Vanderhoof; and his parents-in-law, Colonel Charles E. and | ||||||
15 | Esther M. Davis; and
| ||||||
16 | WHEREAS, Tom Swoik is survived by his wife, Gayle Swoik; | ||||||
17 | his son, Thomas F. "T.J." Swoik Jr.; his daughter, Jaime | ||||||
18 | Linderman; his grandchildren, Madalyn and Charlie Linderman; | ||||||
19 | his brother, Jeffrey (Judy) Davis; his aunt, Judy Endres; his | ||||||
20 | nieces and nephews, Susan (Jeff) Hartnett, Sara (Patrick) | ||||||
21 | Krepps, Lysle Hartnett, Layne Hartnett, Mike (Lawra) | ||||||
22 | Vanderhoof, Eade Vanderhoof, and Hanna Vanderhoof; his |

1 | brother-in-Law, John Vanderhoof; and countless friends; | ||||||
2 | therefore, be it

3 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL | ||||||
4 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
5 | Thomas F. "Tom" Swoik Sr. and extend our sincere condolences | ||||||
6 | to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be | ||||||
7 | it further

8 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
9 | presented to the family of Tom Swoik as an expression of our | ||||||
10 | deepest sympathy.
