SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Gary Lee Bartels of St. Elmo, who
4passed away on March 17, 2024; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Gary Bartels was born to Monroe and Melba
6(Austin) Bartels in Wheaton on September 7, 1957; he married
7Glenda Mellendorf in rural St. Elmo on May 27, 1993; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Gary Bartels owned and operated MBI Construction;
9additionally, he served as president of CCI Redi-Mix and as a
10trustee of the St. Elmo Fire Department; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Gary Bartels was a member of the Church of God in
12St. Elmo; he was also a member of the National Rifle
13Association (NRA), the American Quarter Horse Association
14(AQHA), and the American Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA),
15as well as a life member of the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation;
16and
 
17    WHEREAS, Gary Bartels loved hunting, riding horses,
18telling jokes, and the month of October; he was a helicopter
19pilot, a fan of the Chicago Cubs, and a jack-of-all-trades;
20and

1    WHEREAS, Gary Bartels was preceded in death by his father;
2and
 
3    WHEREAS, Gary Bartels is survived by his wife; his mother;
4his sons, Joshua Gary (Kayla) Bartels and Garrett (Grace)
5Bartels; his daughters, Tamela (Justin) Polanin, Heather
6(Josh) Nelson, and Jessica (Nathan) Lotz; his brothers, Monte
7(Shirley) Bartels and James (Patti) Bartels; his sisters,
8Sheryl (Troy) Kyle and Janis (Steve) Holste; 15 grandchildren;
9and 4 great-grandchildren; therefore, be it
 
10    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
11ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
12Gary Lee Bartels and extend our sincere condolences to his
13family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
14further
 
15    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16presented to the family of Gary Bartels as an expression of our
17deepest sympathy.
