SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Gary Lee Bartels of St. Elmo, who passed away on March 17, 2024; and

WHEREAS, Gary Bartels was born to Monroe and Melba (Austin) Bartels in Wheaton on September 7, 1957; he married Glenda Mellendorf in rural St. Elmo on May 27, 1993; and

WHEREAS, Gary Bartels owned and operated MBI Construction; additionally, he served as president of CCI Redi-Mix and as a trustee of the St. Elmo Fire Department; and

WHEREAS, Gary Bartels was a member of the Church of God in St. Elmo; he was also a member of the National Rifle Association (NRA), the American Quarter Horse Association (AQHA), and the American Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA), as well as a life member of the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation; and

WHEREAS, Gary Bartels loved hunting, riding horses, telling jokes, and the month of October; he was a helicopter pilot, a fan of the Chicago Cubs, and a jack-of-all-trades; and

WHEREAS, Gary Bartels was preceded in death by his father; and

WHEREAS, Gary Bartels is survived by his wife; his mother; his sons, Joshua Gary (Kayla) Bartels and Garrett (Grace) Bartels; his daughters, Tamela (Justin) Polanin, Heather (Josh) Nelson, and Jessica (Nathan) Lotz; his brothers, Monte (Shirley) Bartels and James (Patti) Bartels; his sisters, Sheryl (Troy) Kyle and Janis (Steve) Holste; 15 grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Gary Lee Bartels and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Gary Bartels as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
