SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of George Alexander Terzian of Park
4Ridge, who passed away on March 3, 2024; and
 
5    WHEREAS, George Terzian was born to Alexander and Margaret
6Terzian on June 10, 1932; he was raised in the West Pullman
7neighborhood of Chicago and graduated from Fenger Academy High
8School; he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served four years
9during the Korean War, traveling to many places with his
10favorites being Japan, where he learned to converse in the
11language, Guam, where he played football and made many
12lifelong friends, and San Diego and San Francisco, where he
13spent shore leaves with his California cousins; and
 
14    WHEREAS, George Terzian attended the University of
15Illinois at Urbana-Champaign on a football scholarship and the
16GI Bill; he received a degree in physical education and earned
17a master's degree in physical education and kinesiology; he
18also received a master's degree in counseling from DePaul
19University; and
 
20    WHEREAS, George Terzian taught physical education, driver
21education, and health and coached a variety of sports,
22including football, wrestling, and track and field; he spent

1the majority of his career working at Maine East High School in
2Park Ridge from 1966 to 1994, where he was a pioneer in the
3development of curriculum for SPED-PE, physical education for
4students with disabilities; he also worked at the Skokie
5Health Department, Bement High School, Wilber Wright College
6in Chicago, Maine South High School, and numerous summer
7camps; and
 
8    WHEREAS, George Terzian was inducted into the Illinois
9High School Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2005;
10his high athletic standards helped many individuals and teams
11reach the championship level; and
 
12    WHEREAS, George Terzian enjoyed numerous sports in which
13he participated and held a variety of hobbies and interests,
14including telling stories and jokes, woodworking, baking
15baklava from scratch, amusement parks, vegetable, flower and
16landscape gardening, classic films, comedy, chess, poetry,
17piano, singing, the theater, and traveling to visit friends;
18and
 
19    WHEREAS, George Terzian was preceded in death by his wife,
20Marjorie; his parents; his brother, Charles Terzian; and his
21sisters, Rose Hovsepian, Mary Kirishian, and Caroline Winter;

1    WHEREAS, George Terzian was the father of Elle Margaret
2(Richard) Scholwin and Shelley Marie Terzian; the brother of
3Beverly Miller; and the uncle, great-uncle, and
4great-great-uncle of many nephews and nieces; therefore, be it
 
5    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
6ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
7George Alexander Terzian and extend our sincere condolences to
8his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
9further
 
10    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
11presented to the family of George Terzian as an expression of
12our deepest sympathy.
