SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Richard E. "Dick" McCloskey, who
4passed away on March 4, 2024; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Dick McCloskey was born to Glen and Lorena (Long)
6McCloskey in Cuba on April 30, 1930; he married Marilyn
7Schuman in June 2007; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Dick McCloskey served in the U.S. Army Artillery
9for over 40 years; he served in the Korean Conflict from 1950
10to 1952; he retired with the rank of chief warrant officer 4
11(CW4) in 1983; he was called back to serve in Desert
12Shield/Desert Storm from March 1991 to May 1991; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Dick McCloskey was industrious from a young age,
14owning an ice house and delivering Cuba Ice boxes as a
15teenager; he was a school bus driver at age 20, and he owned
16and operated a gas station in Lewistown; he later owned a
17restaurant, Dick's Hangout in Cuba; he worked at Butler
18Manufacturing in Galesburg and as an industrial engineer at
19International Harvester for 28 years; he also worked as a
20manager at LTD Industries in Lewistown; he owned and operated
21Manufacturing Services in Canton and Rent a Bay in Monterey,
22selling the latter in 1985; and

1    WHEREAS, Dick McCloskey received his pilot's license and
2owned a Cessna airplane for many years; he and his wife
3traveled all over the U.S. during summer vacation, visiting
4almost every state; he trained and owned German Shepherds,
5including his last dog, Buddy; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Dick McCloskey was preceded in death by his son,
7Dick McCloskey, and his brothers, Bill McCloskey, Bob
8McCloskey, Gene McCloskey, Ken McCloskey, and Vernon
9McCloskey; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Dick McCloskey is survived by his brother, Larry
11(Helen) McCloskey; his sister, Shirley (Delbert) Price; his
12son, Danny (Mel) McCloskey; his stepsons, Rodney (Sheila)
13Harris and Jeffery (Lisa) Harris; seven grandchildren; eight
14great-grandchildren, with another due in March; and several
15nieces and nephews; therefore, be it
 
16    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
17ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
18Richard E. "Dick" McCloskey and extend our sincere condolences
19to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be
20it further
 
21    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
