2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened |
3 | | to learn of the death of Robert James Ryan, who passed away on |
4 | | April 1, 2024; and |
5 | | WHEREAS, Robert Ryan was born in Derby, England to Robert |
6 | | A. Ryan and Isobel "Pat" England on September 28, 1953; he |
7 | | graduated from Ampleforth College in 1972, Aix-Marseille |
8 | | Université in 1978, and Oxford Brookes University in 1979; he |
9 | | moved to the U.S. in 1979 and married Bib Davis in 1980; and |
10 | | WHEREAS, Robert Ryan began working as a French tutor prior |
11 | | to starting his career in business development; he had a deep |
12 | | and abiding appreciation for history; he was always ready to |
13 | | share details about any and all British wars, and he loved |
14 | | traveling and learning about other cultures; he was a generous |
15 | | individual who loved helping others and was commonly found |
16 | | with a glass of red wine in his hand; and |
17 | | WHEREAS, Robert Ryan was a longtime active member of the |
18 | | Park Ridge community; he held many elected and volunteer |
19 | | positions, including serving as a Park Ridge alderman, as an |
20 | | Elementary School District 64 board member, and as the first |
21 | | chairman of the community's farmers market; and |

1 | | WHEREAS, Robert Ryan, in retirement, spent much of his |
2 | | time in the south of France with Bib; he continued his |
3 | | life-long dedication to volunteerism through the Newberry |
4 | | Library when in the U.S.; he was a man of action who encouraged |
5 | | people to pursue their passions in life, while making sure to |
6 | | have fun along the way; and |
7 | | WHEREAS, Robert Ryan is survived by his wife, Bib; his |
8 | | three sons, Christopher, David, and Corby; his daughters, by |
9 | | marriage, Clémence (David) and Noelle (Corby); his |
10 | | granddaughter, Léonie; and his siblings, Trisha, Dolly, |
11 | | Claire, John, Paul, Mary Ann, and Deborah; therefore, be it |
12 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL |
13 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
14 | | Robert James Ryan and extend our sincere condolences to his |
15 | | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it |
16 | | further |
17 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
18 | | presented to the family of Robert Ryan as an expression of our |
19 | | deepest sympathy. |
