SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to
3congratulate the Immigrant Family Resource Program (IFRP) for
4its 25 years of service to our State's immigrant and refugee
5families; and
 
6    WHEREAS, IFRP is comprised of a partnership consisting of
7the Illinois Department of Human Services, the Illinois
8Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights, and 65 partnering
9community organizations throughout our State; and
 
10    WHEREAS, IFRP connects immigrant and refugee families to
11valuable services as they move toward economic
12self-sufficiency, including case management, public benefits,
13translation, interpretation, and financial assistance; and
 
14    WHEREAS, IFRP serves the full diversity of our State's
15immigrant and refugee population, providing assistance in 59
16languages, including Spanish, Polish, Arabic, Hindi, Urdu,
17Chinese, Korean, Vietnamese, Pashto, Ukrainian, Burmese, and
18French; and
 
19    WHEREAS, IFRP assists over 20,000 immigrants and refugees
20each year; and

1    WHEREAS, IFRP began in 1999 as a State initiative
2responding to confusion and a lack of information in the midst
3of federal cuts to public benefit eligibility for thousands of
4immigrants lawfully present in the United States who had not
5yet become U.S. citizens; and
 
6    WHEREAS, IFRP has provided crucial outreach, education,
7and application assistance for immigrants and refugees amid
8changing and often confusing policy changes regarding health
9care access, nutritional assistance, income support, and other
10needs; and
 
11    WHEREAS, IFRP has used a successful model of working with
12trusted community-based partners that immigrant and refugee
13families often otherwise rely upon and trust for information,
14education, and support services; and
 
15    WHEREAS, IFRP's network has proven nimble and resilient in
16responding to emerging needs, such as the need for culturally
17and linguistically accessible programming during the COVID-19
18pandemic and the arrival of Syrian refugees in the 2010s,
19Afghan and Ukrainian refugees in the 2020s, and, most
20recently, asylum seekers transported from the southern border
21since August 2022; therefore, be it

1ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate the
2Immigrant Family Resource Program (IFRP) for its 25 years of
3service to our State's immigrant and refugee families in
4assisting them on their path to self-sufficiency and
5integration into our State's economy and community.
