SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Gary GaMaille Barnes of Oak Park, who
4passed away on March 14, 2024 at the age of 87; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Gary Barnes was born to CW Barnes and Roby
6Gregory Barnes in Monticello on November 23, 1936; he
7graduated from Monticello High School, where he was notably
8active in athletics and music; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Gary Barnes received a Bachelor of Arts in
10philosophy from DePauw University in 1958, where he was a
11member of the basketball team, and earned a master's degree in
12divinity and social work from Yale University in 1962; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Gary Barnes was principled and steadfast in his
14convictions, particularly around the subject of technology; he
15spent ten years consolidating his ideas into a hand-written
16book, which was, unfortunately, never published; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Gary Barnes spent his life appreciating fine
18craft; he lovingly worked on his home on Humphrey Avenue,
19meticulously restored antiques, and greatly enjoyed
20woodworking; and

1    WHEREAS, Gary Barnes spent his leisure time listening to
2jazz and staying active; he was an outdoorsman who loved to
3camp and hike, and he enjoyed playing team and individual
4sports such as volleyball and tennis; he remained deeply
5engaged in local sports and politics, was an active community
6member in Oak Park, and a loyal fan of Illinois sports teams;
7and
 
8    WHEREAS, Gary Barnes will be remembered for his
9stubbornness, his passion, and his humor; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Gary Barnes was preceded in death by his parents;
11and
 
12    WHEREAS, Gary Barnes is survived by his daughter, Rachel
13Barnes Pledger; his grandchildren, Scott Thomas Pledger and
14Rebecca Anne Pledger; and his brother, Gregory (Yoko) Barnes;
15therefore, be it
 
16    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
17ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
18Gary GaMaille Barnes and extend our sincere condolences to his
19family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
20further
 
21    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
