SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Howard R. Veal Sr., who passed away on
4June 12, 2024; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Howard Veal, the son of Melvina Tripp, was born
6in Pocahontas, Mississippi on October 24, 1942; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Howard Veal owned H & J Lawn Service, a business
8started in partnership with his youngest son, Jason; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Howard Veal was dedicated to serving his
10community; he led the Springfield Urban League for decades,
11served on the Illinois Human Rights Commission for several
12years, and belonged to multiple organizations, including The
13Frontiers and Rotary International; he was also an active
14member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Howard Veal was a long-standing member of
16Springfield's oldest Black church, Zion Missionary Baptist
17Church, attending and serving in some capacity since 1972; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Howard Veal will be remembered for exemplifying
19servant leadership within his local community and beyond,
20serving as a standard bearer for equality, justice, equity,

1freedom, and human rights; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Howard Veal was preceded in death by his mother;
3his brother, Clifton Veal; and his sisters, Brenda Tripp,
4Vickie Tripp, and Daisy Hayes; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Howard Veal is survived by his wife of 52 years,
6Elizabeth; his sons, Jason (Natoshia) Veal and Howard (Shelli)
7Veal Jr.; his grandchildren, Kaitlin Veal, Parish Florence,
8Kylee Veal, Myles Veal, Maya Veal, Twaii Johnson, Cornelius
9Frazier, Nehemiah Dawson, Jeremiah Dawson, Kamella Veal, and
10Kenya Veal; four great-grandchildren; his siblings, Debra
11Tripp, Linda Tripp, Sandra Tripp, and Bernard Tripp; and many
12nieces and nephews; therefore, be it
 
13    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
14ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
15Howard R. Veal Sr. and extend our sincere condolences to his
16family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
17further
 
18    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
19presented to the family of Howard Veal as an expression of our
20deepest sympathy.
