SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Sandra Jean Booker, who passed away on
4August 13, 2024; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Sandra Booker was born to Judge A. Booker and
6Wynona (Bea) Williams-Booker in Coatopa, Alabama on August 19,
71960; she graduated from North Chicago Community High School
8in 1979; she enrolled in the College of Lake County's Basic
9Nurse Assistant Training Program in August 1983, earning her
10CNA license in October 1983; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Sandra Booker began her healthcare career as a
12CNA at Winchester House in 1983; she then served as a medical
13assistant at the Chicago Medical School, known today as the
14Rosalind Franklin School of Medicine; she later served at the
15Lake County Health Department from 1991 to 2013, where her
16roles included home health nursing assistant, community health
17associate, and senior public health assistant; through these
18positions, she made lasting, impactful relationships with teen
19mothers at Stepping Together, senior citizens at Home Health,
20and countless others in the community; after leaving the
21county, she continued her advocacy as a home-based specialist,
22a respite care provider, and a self-employed caregiver; and

1    WHEREAS, Beyond her professional work, Sandra Booker
2volunteered as an adult probation officer of Lake County for
3over 20 years and worked as a mentor to young teenagers through
4My Father's Business; she also remained an active and beloved
5member of the Lake County Sarcoidosis Support Group; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Sandra Booker committed to her faith at an early
7age, joining First Corinthian Missionary Baptist Church in
81970 and again in 1995; she served on the Junior Usher Board
9and later became a preschool-kindergarten Sunday school
10teacher, a role she held until 2012; she then joined the Way
11Through the Word Ministry in 2013; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Sandra Booker was a pillar of the Lake County
13community, possessing a vibrant personality, a dedication to
14helping others, and the ability to bring people together; she
15was affectionately known as "Moo", "San", "Ms. B", "Ms.
16Booker", "Ms. Waukegan", "Ms. G.L.", and "TeTe San"; her
17legacy of love, service, and unwavering faith will continue to
18inspire all who had the privilege of knowing her; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Sandra Booker was preceded in death by her
20mother; her maternal grandparents, Jack and Elsie Williams;
21her paternal grandparents, Alberta Hobbs-Caldwell and Eugene
22Booker; her brothers, Don Brown, Matt Brown, and Mark D.
23Booker; her sisters, Linda "Ann" Miller-Quinn, Brenda J.

1Black-Glover, and Sharon Davis; her godmother, Candace Martin;
2two uncles; four aunts; and many cousins; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Sandra Booker is survived by her father; her
4children, Natisha Booker and Samuel D.A. Gray; her daughter of
5love, Adrienne (Jamar) Simmons; her sisters, Barbara (Walter)
6Branch, Sandra Booker, Alice (Sam) Pope-Baker, Cathy (Warren)
7Roseborough, Angela Patterson, Josie Starks, Johnnie Mitchell,
8and Charlene Miller; her brothers, Michael Booker and Ernest
9Booker; her siblings-in-law, Wanda Brown, Julie Booker, John
10W. Black, and Anthony "Tony" Glover; her aunts, Ruth Jackson,
11Gloria Rice, Barbara Bush, Ikie Jackson, Billeye Shelton, and
12Mary Ross Cunningham; her uncles, Lorenza (Jennifer) Belville
13and Preston (Joe) Wiggins; her bonus grandchildren, Olivia and
14Jacob Simmons; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other
15relatives; her special niece, Arlene Sawyer; her special
16cousins, Pastor Kathy Moton and Sheila Miller; her
17godchildren, Ericka Morris, Mia Waites, Jalen Morris Desmond
18Roseborough, Yammile Estrada, and LaMar Black Jr.; her special
19friends, Lydia Sawyer, Michele McBride, Eugene Jones, Celester
20Rodney, Debra Choc, Doris Wilburn, Brenda MacDonnell, Sharon
21Doney, Darlene Kennard, Rosalind Davis, and Orlando and Bertha
22Warner; and the Old Lake County Family Life Education Team;
23therefore, be it
 
24    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL

1ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
2Sandra Jean Booker and extend our sincere condolences to her
3family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
4further
 
5    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
6presented to the family of Sandra Booker as an expression of
7our deepest sympathy.
