2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | ||||||
3 | to learn of the death of George Philip Longmeyer, who passed | ||||||
4 | away on October 9, 2024; and | ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, George Longmeyer was born to Lucy (Wood) and | ||||||
6 | Joseph Longmeyer in Whitehall on October 30, 1940; he | ||||||
7 | graduated from Greenfield High School; he enlisted in the U.S. | ||||||
8 | Marine Corps, serving from 1959 to 1963; he earned his | ||||||
9 | bachelor's degree in political science from Western Illinois | ||||||
10 | University and his master's degree in public administration | ||||||
11 | from Lewis University; and | ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, George Longmeyer became assistant village manager | ||||||
13 | of Hoffman Estates in 1971, and he was named village manager in | ||||||
14 | 1972; he worked for Arlingdale Home Builders in 1979 before | ||||||
15 | returning to public service as assistant village manager of | ||||||
16 | Schaumburg in 1981; he became village manager of Schaumburg in | ||||||
17 | 1986, where he oversaw the redevelopment of Schaumburg's Town | ||||||
18 | Square, including the building of a new library, the purchase | ||||||
19 | of Schaumburg Airport, and the approval to build the baseball | ||||||
20 | stadium known as Wintrust Field; he retired in 1998; and | ||||||
21 | WHEREAS, George Longmeyer was elected to the Schaumburg | ||||||
22 | Park District Board in 2001, where he served until retiring |

1 | from public service in 2021; during his tenure, he helped | ||||||
2 | bring a number of projects to fruition, including a new Sports | ||||||
3 | Center, the Kay Wojcik Conservation Area, the Atcher Island | ||||||
4 | Water Park, the Bison's Bluff Nature Playground, and the | ||||||
5 | renovation of the Schaumburg Golf Club; and | ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, George Longmeyer was an avid golfer, and he | ||||||
7 | received the honor of having a lake at the Schaumburg Golf Club | ||||||
8 | named after him in 2021; and | ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, George Longmeyer was preceded in death by his | ||||||
10 | older brothers, Joseph and John; his twin sister, Margaret; | ||||||
11 | and his younger sister, Mary Lee; and | ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, George Longmeyer is survived by his children, | ||||||
13 | Jennifer (Christian Wood) Longmeyer-Wood, Brian (Lauren) | ||||||
14 | Longmeyer, and Jeffrey Longmeyer; six grandchildren; and | ||||||
15 | numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews; | ||||||
16 | therefore, be it | ||||||
17 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL | ||||||
18 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
19 | George Philip Longmeyer and extend our sincere condolences to | ||||||
20 | his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | ||||||
