SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of George Philip Longmeyer, who passed
4away on October 9, 2024; and
 
5    WHEREAS, George Longmeyer was born to Lucy (Wood) and
6Joseph Longmeyer in Whitehall on October 30, 1940; he
7graduated from Greenfield High School; he enlisted in the U.S.
8Marine Corps, serving from 1959 to 1963; he earned his
9bachelor's degree in political science from Western Illinois
10University and his master's degree in public administration
11from Lewis University; and
 
12    WHEREAS, George Longmeyer became assistant village manager
13of Hoffman Estates in 1971, and he was named village manager in
141972; he worked for Arlingdale Home Builders in 1979 before
15returning to public service as assistant village manager of
16Schaumburg in 1981; he became village manager of Schaumburg in
171986, where he oversaw the redevelopment of Schaumburg's Town
18Square, including the building of a new library, the purchase
19of Schaumburg Airport, and the approval to build the baseball
20stadium known as Wintrust Field; he retired in 1998; and
 
21    WHEREAS, George Longmeyer was elected to the Schaumburg
22Park District Board in 2001, where he served until retiring

1from public service in 2021; during his tenure, he helped
2bring a number of projects to fruition, including a new Sports
3Center, the Kay Wojcik Conservation Area, the Atcher Island
4Water Park, the Bison's Bluff Nature Playground, and the
5renovation of the Schaumburg Golf Club; and
 
6    WHEREAS, George Longmeyer was an avid golfer, and he
7received the honor of having a lake at the Schaumburg Golf Club
8named after him in 2021; and
 
9    WHEREAS, George Longmeyer was preceded in death by his
10older brothers, Joseph and John; his twin sister, Margaret;
11and his younger sister, Mary Lee; and
 
12    WHEREAS, George Longmeyer is survived by his children,
13Jennifer (Christian Wood) Longmeyer-Wood, Brian (Lauren)
14Longmeyer, and Jeffrey Longmeyer; six grandchildren; and
15numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews;
16therefore, be it
 
17    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
18ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
19George Philip Longmeyer and extend our sincere condolences to
20his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
21further
