SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of George Philip Longmeyer, who passed away on October 9, 2024; and

WHEREAS, George Longmeyer was born to Lucy (Wood) and Joseph Longmeyer in Whitehall on October 30, 1940; he graduated from Greenfield High School; he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps, serving from 1959 to 1963; he earned his bachelor's degree in political science from Western Illinois University and his master's degree in public administration from Lewis University; and

WHEREAS, George Longmeyer became assistant village manager of Hoffman Estates in 1971, and he was named village manager in 1972; he worked for Arlingdale Home Builders in 1979 before returning to public service as assistant village manager of Schaumburg in 1981; he became village manager of Schaumburg in 1986, where he oversaw the redevelopment of Schaumburg's Town Square, including the building of a new library, the purchase of Schaumburg Airport, and the approval to build the baseball stadium known as Wintrust Field; he retired in 1998; and

WHEREAS, George Longmeyer was elected to the Schaumburg Park District Board in 2001, where he served until retiring from public service in 2021; during his tenure, he helped bring a number of projects to fruition, including a new Sports Center, the Kay Wojcik Conservation Area, the Atcher Island Water Park, the Bison's Bluff Nature Playground, and the renovation of the Schaumburg Golf Club; and

WHEREAS, George Longmeyer was an avid golfer, and he received the honor of having a lake at the Schaumburg Golf Club named after him in 2021; and

WHEREAS, George Longmeyer was preceded in death by his older brothers, Joseph and John; his twin sister, Margaret; and his younger sister, Mary Lee; and

WHEREAS, George Longmeyer is survived by his children, Jennifer (Christian Wood) Longmeyer-Wood, Brian (Lauren) Longmeyer, and Jeffrey Longmeyer; six grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of George Philip Longmeyer and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of George Longmeyer as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
